Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

"I'm sorry, hon." Dinah bit into her own pie slice and wrapped an arm around Raven's middle. "He's gonna stay in touch though, right? No breaking up, or disappearing?"

Raven nodded, leaning her head against Dinah's shoulder. "I will not allow him to do what happened in the future we learned not long ago."

The memories were fuzzy, but she still remembered some of the important bits.

"Good," Dinah said firmly. Raven shouldn't have to deal with that. She licked her pie slice and added, "I didn't like mine much either, but that means-- oh no! -- I'll have to keep calling you a lot, so we don't get out of touch."

"Of course," Raven said. "We have already kept in touch a great deal over this past year, and there is no reason for that not to continue."

"'Xactly," Dinah agreed. "You should visit New Gotham again. With Jono, if you want? And maybe -- oh, did Karla tell you, we were thinking of taking Kyle to Kaeleer? Would you want to come along too?"

"Of course," Raven said. "But do you think Kyle is ready for a place like Kaeleer?"

"I don't know... he's here this weekend. Just to see that there's more than just metas like in New Gotham," Dinah said, biting her lip. "And I have to get him used to the idea sometime, you know? Or he'll never believe me about other stuff." Like what happened with Priestly.

"That is true," Raven said. "And Kaeleer has not always been distressing when we have visited it in the past."

Just...most of the time.

Two out of three visits had been traumatizing... they were due, right? Right!

"And I'll send him home immediately if it gets dangerous," Dinah decided. "But dragons! Unicorns! Pickleberries! He'll love it, if we get to have a trip like that."

"And I think you may have to ask Karla to tell Lucivar to behave," Raven said with a small smile. She hoped this trip would be much less traumatic than many of the others as well.

Dinah groaned, putting her head in her hands. "You think he'll be a pain too?" she asked, her voice muffled. It wasn't like Dinah didn't, but it would've cheered her up if Raven had been an optimist.

Raven gave Dinah a look. "When has Lucivar not been 'a pain'?" she said. Had she met him?

"He apologized for yelling at me last October..." Um. But that was the only time she could think of. "Well, shoot. I'm going to have to warn Kyle." She contemplated that and sighed. "We'll see if he changes his mind about the trip then. Although, he did survive meeting Helena."
