Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

"Hey there," Jason said with a little grin. "You here for the bride or groom?"

Jason thought he was hilarious.

Oh, hell-o there. Rinoa was going to beam at the guy next to her. Because her boyfriend might not even be coming to graduation, and if he was, he wasn't here right now, and besides, having a boyfriend didn't mean she couldn't, say, talk to the insanely hot guy who wanted to strike up a conversation.

Excuse her, she had eyes.

"This would be a pretty big wedding," she teased. "Do they all have to marry each other, or will we let them pair off?"

"Hmmm, I dunno," Jason mused. "Pair 'em off, I think. More traditional. Do you think we have enough guys and girls to make it work?"

"It's Fandom," Rinoa laughed. "I don't think anybody's going to be stuck on the traditional for long. So who are you here for? Bride or groom."

"Bride," Jason said with a laugh. "My sister, Sookie."

Okay, she hadn't expected that. She took a second to stare at him, and take in his features -- the eyes, they totally had the same eyes.

"Seriously?" she grinned. "I'm a friend of hers. Rinoa. Heartilly." She offered a hand. "We came down to visit a couple of times, for ..."

Er. How much did Jason know about the kind of things Sookie got up to? Discretion was suddenly not such a bad idea.

"The holidays and so on."

He shook her hand and gave her his very best smile. "If I'd known Sookie's friends were so pretty, I would've stopped by."

Maybe.

"Oh, very smooth," she laughed. "You should stop by anyway, just to hang out with your sister, right? Isn't that what siblings do?"

She was an only child. It explained why she was so spoiled.

"Depends," Jason said thoughtfully. "Does she have food in the fridge?"

"Usually," Rinoa said. "I mean, everybody has food in their fridge, right? That's what fridges are for."

She was very carefully not mentioning Hadley, who hadn't had any food in her house. But that wasn't ... quite what he was asking. She hoped.

"And will she make me a sandwich?" Jason checked.

Rinoa laughed. "Oh, come on," she said. "Big strong guy like you, I'm sure you can manage your own sandwiches. Sandwiches are easy."

"Sookie makes them better than I do," Jason said. "I put too much mayo on 'em."

"You can always wipe the mayo off," she said. "And then you wouldn't be stuck waiting for other people to make you sandwiches."

"But it makes them so happy!" Jason said.

Such a giver, that Jason.

She was giggling, again.

"You are so full of it."

"Yeah," Jason agreed, "but you like it."
