Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

Dinah facepalmed, then sighed in resignation. "Well, that just makes me extra- glad I came, then, I guess." She ginned at him. "And now I'm going to have to take pictures of the audience when stuff goes down, just to get the reactions for people whose families aren't quite clued in."

"Yeah, I worry sometimes about what the families think, but no one's tried to sue the school yet." Yet being the operative part of that sentence.

"It's amazing how many want to believe it's really good special effects, isn't it?" Dinah asked, remembering Priestly's mom the year before. "How's college going? And pre-law and stuff? And did you guys turn into little kids, a couple weekends ago?"

"College is awesome, even though finals are coming and I want to die," Sam said with a laugh. "No, we didn't turn into little kids. Did that happen again?"

"Yes. God. Priestly and I completely freaked out his roommate, 'cause I was visiting Santa Cruz at the time." Dinah rubbed the blush on her face. "And my finals are in two weeks, and I'd seriously love it if I could get one of those Portalocity extra-two-weeks-to-study deals for a late birthday present."

"Peter keeps offering to freeze time for me so I can study longer, and I'll admit, it's getting harder to be good and say no to him," Sam said.

Dinah poked at his shoulder and teased, "You're probably getting straight A's. Again. And oh! I forgot to ask if you were in any of the plays this semester."

"Not this semester. I've been focusing on school," Sam said. "But I'm taking a lighter load in the fall," because fifteen credits was totally light for him, "so I might do something then. What about you?"
