Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

"JAI!" Juliet yelled happily, climbing on her seat and flailing at Jaina.

"She had more trouble with 'valedictorian,'" Rory admitted, reaching over to pick Juliet up and set her on the ground so she could toddle over to Jaina without hurting herself.

"Hi, sweetie," Jaina said, picking Juliet up again to give her a kiss on the head.

To Rory, she said, "There will come a year when you don't have to see one of us graduate, I swear."

"Ben's next year, isn't he?" Rory asked with a smile as Juliet giggled happily. "What are the odds that another Skywalker doesn't land in our laps for the 2013 graduation?"

"I'm hoping against it," Jaina said. "Selfishly it'd be weird to come back and see a family member when I wasn't around to add to their trauma during their high school years."

Wow, she'd come a long way since her own high school years.

"I promise to let you know the second I hear about someone from your universe," Rory offered. "So that when you are around, you'll know there's someone to hit up, trauma-wise. If nothing else, you're always welcome to traumatize Juliet during her preschool and elementary years to make up for it. You know, within reason."

"I'd probably do that part anyway," Jaina told her. If she was around. She figured the Jacen stuff would be starting right about then. "Sorry, Juliet."

Juliet answered that by pulling on Jaina's fascinating hair. Not that she understood what any of that had meant, but hair was clearly meant to be pulled on. "Jai! X-Wing?"

Because it had been awhile since she'd asked, you see.

"I still have one, yes," Jaina said, using one hand to try and extract her hair from Juliet's grip. "And there's still a few days to see it."

"Fly like doggie," Juliet decided, because what is this 'license' foolishness? She would have none of it. "Jedi!"

"Like doggie. Okay, that makes sense." No, seriously, it did. She knew all about Vladdie. "Does Grandfather levitate her a lot?" she asked Rory.

"It makes her laugh," Rory said with a nod. "And she can levitate stuff on her own, though her control is...still developing."

That was a diplomatic way of saying, 'There are reasons we can't shop certain places anymore, now that Juliet's thrown tantrums there.'

"It better, soon," Rory said fretfully. "We're on the waitlist for a couple preschools already, and I don't want to think about how fast we'd get kicked out if she bounced a classmate out a window."
