Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

Her name having been called, Kate was smiling as she came up, and the only reason why there wasn't a teary glimmer in her eyes was that she'd had time to carefully wipe it all away between the speeches and this.

Once she got her diploma she held it high above her head, all smug cheer, then curtsied towards the audience, ignoring the subtle pang inside that said maybe her parents should have been here for this after all.

Marshall couldn't clap since he was busy taking pictures of his sister's moment of graduation glory, but he could still be a supportive brother and yell uncharacteristically loudly.

"Go Kate!"

Kate was one of the people who got a cheer from Jack, as he made a mental note to try to catch her over the weekend. The last time they'd talked, they'd both been 40.

Also, it was hard not to cheer for someone who had that adorable a curtsy.

Okay, Mitchell was totally clapping and grinning like a fool. "Kate!"

A big sister wasn't quite parents, but Francine did her best to make sure Kate knew Moosh wasn't the only family clapping for her.

Standing on her chair might have been a bad idea, though, since her "WHOOHOO KATE!" was more like "WHOOHOO K--ack-clatter-ow."

Bod wasn't really one to holler and hoot but he did stand up and clap a little louder when Kate crossed the stage. And he was smiling wide enough to possibly pull a muscle but that didn't matter to him.

Nathan was going to be loud. He stood up on his chair, whistled, shouted and was just generally obnoxious even if he was happy for Kate. He just wanted to be loud and try and embarrass her even if that was nigh impossible.

This sort of thing was enough to have Hannibal grinning as he stood up and clapped louder for Kate than many others. He was biased and he didn't care.

Alex clapped loudly for her, cheering as best she could. Hey, third floor-ers had to stick together.

Yeah, Emma could have done it telepathically, but it was rather expected you make some noise at a graduation.
