Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

"Yes, but if you can see how to avoid an undesirable fate, it would be your responsibility as a ruler to do so, wouldn't you agree?"

The feeling was mutual, as Leto always felt superior to Arthur's rather... medieval comments.

Leto's non-medieval ideas would have gotten him tarred, feathered and burned by now, in Arthur's Albion, so really now.

"Of course," Arthur agreed, easily. "As I said, I am very pleased to hear you have made plans. Being without them would have been unfortunate."

In Leto's current state, that would hardly had affected him, but that was beside the point.

"However, I'm glad to be here. I've missed this place, even just for brief visits."

He would have been tarred, feathered and burned eight years ago. "I'm sure they'll be glad to see more of you," Arthur continued, "Seeing how many have wept in your absence."

The mocking was a little more overt now.

"Well, I'm glad to hear you've been here to comfort them." Now, had he said anything about people missing him? (which if course they had.) "It seems like you enjoy stopping by too, unless you just stumble through portals accidentally."

... Actually yes, he did.

But he wasn't going to admit that to Leto.

"I do need to check in from time to time," Arthur said, easily. "Reserves, and all that. Though they seem to be faring well."

"I'm glad to hear that too," Leto replied. "At least we left a legacy of some kind."

Note the we, Arthur.

"And I'm sure it will be glad to find you checking up on it, too," Arthur said.

He could play dirty, too!

"They hardly need my presence there now," Leto said. "Or yours, if they continue to train on their own. But I wouldn't mind seeing any friends who are still part of it."

Of course he could, for all his talk of chivalry.

"Have you seen Dinah?"
bitchprince: (...que?)

There was a difference between 'chivalry' and 'not punching a guy in the stomach while you're fighting him'.

"Not as of yet, but she's been here frequently over the year," Arthur supplied. "I'm sure you'll see her bouncing above the crowd eventually."

It was all a matter of definition.

"She hasn't changed, then." Leto grinned.

The one he really was looking for however was Alice, but he was not going to ask Arthur about her.

"It's Dinah, that's like waiting for the skies to turn purple or something," Arthur complained.

Leto shot Arthur a more serious look. "People do change occasionally. Is there anyone else you've stayed in touch with?"

Not that Leto expected Alice to have stayed in touch with Arthur, but if Arthur had seen her here he might have the decency to mention it.

"Francine and Katina, of course," Arthur said, idly. He couldn't even consider the thought of not keeping in touch with them at this point, even if they hadn't been sure it was even possible in the beginning. "I don't suppose you have."

"I did for a while, then it became necessary to wait until I caught up with Ghanima's timeline here. But that was only half a year ago, Fandom time." He smiled a little in response to an inner voice, and then passed on that question, one he hadn't thought to ask himself: "Why did you think I hadn't?"

It had been surprisingly easy to slip back into their usual bickering. It was an oddly comforting feeling, perhaps reminding Leto of what he had once been.

"Because I've been here every three months or so, and I haven't heard a damn word about you," Arthur said.

Which was both honest and not 'you didn't even send me anything I didn't want to read anyway, you prick'.

He was not entirely a rational man.

No, Leto was aware of that. At times it had been frustrating.

"Believe me, if I could have done so I would have visited more frequently." That was honest too.
