Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

If somebody had asked Jono if he'd ever expected he'd be getting his high school diploma after the whole mutant powers thing, he would have shrugged and informed them that he hadn't really been expecting to get his high school diploma before the whole mutant powers thing.

As it stood, even if he did still feel a bit foolish in the gown and mortarboard, he was stepping up to accept it with his shoulder squared and his chin (sort of) held high.

George was smiling. It was hard, in a way, because she was going to miss Jono, and he was kind of her closest friend here. But she was smiling for him, anyway.

*Yaaaaaaaaaaaay! Congrats!* Karla sent her cheer out on an unrestricted psychic thread for everyone to hear. It was for solidarity--Jono talked like that all the time.

And as he grabbed his diploma, Karla took a long drink from the bottle of chewy beer she'd brought. Yay preparation!

Cally had mixed feelings about seeing the first other telepath she had met in Fandom graduate and thus, sooner or later, leave, but that didn't mean she spared any applause; she even sent a //Congratulations!// that would carry much better than anything she might shout aloud.
