Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!
The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)
The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.
No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

Re: Welcome!
She shrugged a little, shifting to rest her chin on a palm. "It had to come sooner or later, right?"
Re: Welcome!
Re: Welcome!
That ... possibly wasn't true, but no matter.
She added, "So are you thinking you might come here in a couple years?"
Re: Welcome!
It wasn't entirely a serious question, but Kennedy got all spluttery at her when she asked; she wanted to see what Tara would do.
Re: Welcome!
Her eyes fluttered to Constance, as if checking if that were an okay answer.
Re: Welcome!
"Jañe," Constance admonished lightly, and if you squinted it almost looked like she'd winked at Tara. "Giving Tara a hard time is Kennedy's job, not yours. You've got your answer; leave it there."
Luckily, Kennedy's little sister seemed more inclined than Kennedy was to leave well enough alone, but she'd evidently picked up Kennedy's effective pouting technique.
Re: Welcome!
Then, more loudly: "Jañe, you look so much like your sister when you do that."
Re: Welcome!
"Uh huh," Jañe answered, beaming. "Mom doesn't love it but that's okay. You're gonna come have dinner with us later, right?"
Ah, nine-year-olds. Who needed logical segues?
Re: Welcome!
"As long as your dad is okay with it," she nodded. "I, um, don't want to be in the way if you decide to have a special family thing. With Constance."
Re: Welcome!
"I think if I count in that category," she informed Tara with a knowing smile, "then by all rights you do, too."
