Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

"I heard there might be a birthday girl somewhere around here," Puck noted, wandering over and flopping into the seat beside her. "Any idea on where she might be?"

"I think I can claim that," Quinn said, leaning in easily to encourage a birthday kiss. "It's a really nice day, isn't it? Even if I'm not going to get a car this year."

She was a step ahead of him there, since he'd already been planning on a birthday kiss, but if she was going to actively encourage it, what choice did he have but to take her up on it?

"You don't know you're not getting a car," Puck noted, when he pulled back, and slung an arm along the back of her chair. "I just don't know where you'd put it."

"And I don't think I need a second car to sit next to the one that sits in my parents' driveway," Quinn answered, a little pouty even as she snuggled into his arm.

Arms were nice.

"But still. Seventeen is not as big a deal as sixteen, you know?"

"Whatever, I'm pretty sure there's still a chance you'll get a second car," Puck decided, running his fingertips along her upper arm. "But my seventeenth wasn't as big a deal, anyway. It's kind of a middle year. Next birthday's the big one."

"Maybe, They're bring weird," Quinn said, but dismissively; whatever her parents were focused on, it clearly wasn't as important as her. "And I know. Eighteen will be awesome."

Her eyes fluttered to him. "Maybe we could go away for the weekend or something for yours. It's summer, right?"

"Middle of June," he said, eyebrows shooting up at the merit of that idea. "A whole weekend, huh? I mean, I should definitely celebrate all the things I get to do with eighteen. Shoot a gun. Vote. Buy cigarettes. I should shoot a hole through a ballot while smoking."

"We could take a portal to Canada and you could have a beer on that shooting range," Quinn suggested. "Also, you're a dork."

"Canada's drinking age is nineteen," he said, because of course he knew that. "But they'd probably let it slide, anyway. Because they're Canada. And be nice to me or I won't let you illegally shoot my ballot when no one's looking."

"You'd just be afraid I'd be a better shot than you are," Quinn teased. "besides, I am being nice. A weekend away is really nice."

"It's super-nice," Puck agreed, leaning a little to press a kiss to her cheek. "Way nicer than shooting things, even. And I'd pay money to see you shoot a gun, anyway. I bet you are a better shot."

She was better at precision, anyway. And a perfectionist. Quinn would probably just keep at it until she was the best, anyway, whereas Puck would decide to hit things instead.
