Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

Tahiri kept it simple: she walked up, she accepted her diploma, and she turned to the audience with a slight nod of her head and a smile when she turned her tassel.

Just before she went back to her seat, though, she couldn't resist calling out loud: "Al' tanna Fandom!"

She couldn't help but feel that there was a nice bit of symbolism about co-opting a phrase that had been used to salute Supreme Overlord Shimrra.

Tahiri was going to get cheered for anyway, but with that sort of line, Jaina was just going to cheer a little harder.

She could count on an applause from Ender, too, who was smiling at her from the audience.

Aww, of course Alex was going to be loud for his favorite big sibling. Loud and obnoxious cheering was what he did best.

Loud and obnoxious cheering was not what Francine did bes. Clumsy but endearing cheering was what Francine did best, and Tahiri got a heaping helping of that.

"TAHIRI!" Dinah yelled at the top of her lungs. "WAY TO GO!"

Zayne had no idea what it was Tahiri said, but he was cheering anyway.

Ben felt tears in his eyes--suddenly this felt very real--but he shoved his own issues aside to cheer good and loudly for Tahiri.

Really, Corran thought he should have expected Tahiri to have something to say even when all she had to do was walk across a stage. The fact that it was that... She'd come a long way, and that deserved applause.

Karla waved her arms and shouted, "WOO! TAHIRI!" before bringing them down and clapping as hard as she could.
