The Science of Sexuality, Monday

John was waiting at the front of the class with a smile and a pile of tests. "Please turn your papers in, then take an exam and sit down," he said. "We'll be testing you on what we've covered this term." ...and Sherlock was responsible for half the test. Fear.

"I would say it has been a pleasure to teach you all, but lies are beneath me," Sherlock added as he worked on something on John's laptop.

"Sherlock will miss you," John translated firmly. "You've been a great--" Mindbogglingly brainbreaky, "class, and I hope that what we've covered will help you later on in life. Good luck on the test."

After turning in his admittedly half assed paper, Nathan took his seat and tried not to think about the exam. He sucked at them anyway so he figured he was just doomed for mediocrity when it came to academics.

Emma's paper had been written during bouts of packing - and vampires - down in New Orleans, so it wasn't as polished as she would have liked. But it was still a solid essay on Dr. Drew Pinkey, and his effect on pop culture and the public perception of teen sexuality.

Good luck understanding the technical references in Cally's paper. (Er, John. Sherlock will probably get the idea.) Cally wasn't an artificial gestation expert, but she sort of sometimes shared a brain with someone who was.

Cally named the various stages in humans, but felt compelled to add that the most difficult time was The pregnancy part. Seriously, look into gestation chambers.

Cally gave a brief rundown of the scale, adding that her opinions on orientation hadn't been changed by the class because they were fairly open to begin with, but she felt the Kinsey scale was lacking representation for those who had no sexual interest at all, before you even got into little things like Humanity is not the only sapient species in the universe, and the model should be scalable for more than two genders.

Cally didn't spend much time wondering which of her professors had written this question.

I would imagine the take-home lesson is "Try not to be stupid, and here are some tips that can minimize the effects when you inevitably are."

Cally wasn't cynical; she was just good at reading people who were.

I don't really care if I pass; I took this course for the education, not the marks.

Much like Emma's, Karla's paper had been written while Karla had been doing other things, like meeting the vampire Queen of Louisiana, working a ritual to watch a friend's cousin get murdered, and attending a fancy dress party that turned into Murderfest 2011. Fortunately, she'd written about 'Dite, which meant she was able to make a few phone calls and get the information she needed.

John and Sherlock had been on the island long enough to accept a paper written about the Greek goddess of love, right?

Magical contraceptive tea.

Not being an idiot also helps improve the efficacy of all of them.
