The Science of Sexuality, Monday

"I hope you've all recovered from the weekend," John said, quickly, and smiled at the class. His smile looked a little... twitchy if you paid attention, though. He was starting to get more than fed up with all the strangeness. "Anyway, this is our last class before your final, and we felt it was a good idea to acquaint you with the people behing the science."

Or rather, John had. Sherlock had sort of sneered.

"In our very first class, we described the Kinsey scale," he continued on, bravely, ignoring Sherlock's texting. "The scale was designed by a pioneer in the field, Alfred Kinsey. A film was made of his life and work. We're going to be watching that today, as an inspiration for what will be half of your grade for this course."

Also John's idea. Sherlock thought it was all bullshit.

"I want you to find someone or something - an event or a researcher or a priest or... whatever, really, that caused people to expand their views, or look deeper into, what intimacy and intercourse really are. What they say about our species, that sort of thing. Write an essay on them, and what they did, and why you feel they're important, and turn it in next week."

He smiled.

Then, after a beat: "And explain what you might have learned about the topic these past few weeks that might help you make decisions about your own bodies." That was Sherlock's contribution.

Then he turned on the TV.

Quinn wasn't working on her essay just yet, but she was scratching down a few ideas. Would Bristol Palin count as somebody to write about?

Cally's notes consisted so far of scribbling down everything she could remember about Clinician Franton, the scientist who perfected Auron's cloning process -- then a giant red question mark because... well, because. She thought that thoroughly divorcing physical intimacy from the need for reproduction was groundbreaking, but was it inspiring to anyone but an Auronar?

Emma was wondering if she could get away with doing her essay on Dr. Drew. What? Loveline was still on MTV when she'd come to Fandom; so for a younger Emma who'd been trying to understand life in-general, he'd been incredibly influential.
