Library [04/08]
Wesley was going to spend his library shift (surprise, surprise) reading today! Reading about what, you ask? Oh, who even cares. There were books and he was reading them. And occasionally laughing, though they were nonfiction and pretty dull.

"Thanks. I just ...wondered," she said. "So what happens if you age out? D-do you just, um, lose your watcher and kind of try to be normal?"
That part, she didn't like. She couldn't imagine Kennedy without Constance.

That was a trickier one. He knew that the Watchers whose Potentials never got Called usually retreated to quiet life after that. But on the Slayer end of it... well, in his studies, they'd only ever focused on the assumption that they were, in fact, dealing with active Slayers. Those who were assigned to Potentials generally trained separately.
"My impression of it is that they try to be normal," he guessed. "I imagine -- er, certain particular Potentials might shy away from normalcy, though."
Hint, hint.

"It's the only thing she wants," she said. "It'll be like ... like chopping off her arms or something, you know? It makes me worry about what she'll do if she never gets it. Um. In totally hypothetical terms."

"I understand," Wesley said, and he really did. Hey, he knew all about missing out on your dream job, okay? Only in his case it was "fired" instead of "never picked." He sighed, and finally drew from his own personal experience on the subject. "I... I have confidence that she'll find a way to get what she wants anyway," he said, shrugging. "She's rather good at that. Even without the superpowers, I think she'll still find a way to, ah, get involved."

"I... I suppose the difficult part is trusting her to know what she's doing in battle," he guessed. "Because she's quite skilled, obviously, but it's hard to remember that amidst the, er, nervousness about whether or not she'll be alright."
Kennedy. Not Katniss. Ahem.

That wasn't awkward at all.
