"So this weekend was a bit...odd," Anakin began as he walked into the room. "Many of you saw glimpses of your lives and how they might be going in twenty years, though how exact your memories are seems to vary from person to person." He leaned back against his desk. "Today's discussion was supposed to be about sloth: not the animal, the deadly sin. Sloth is the biblical way of defining goofing off, apathy, the general urge to let life pass you by without putting for any real effort to steer yourself."

He glanced around at the students. "Given what you saw and remember from the weekend, tell me if you have an urge to slide into the life you might have in twenty years. Did you like what you saw? If you don't remember anything, what does that signify to you? What do you think that means for your future?"

Anakin smiled. "I like to ask easy questions."

As the class on sloth is probably not the one to nap through...

Momoko was a bit eager to finish class, but she was paying attention. Especially once Professor Skywalker mentioned the weekend.

Stupid weekend.

Did what you saw and remember from this weekend give you a new zeal for what your life might be like in 20 years? Or would you rather hide under your bed and let it pass you by?

Momoko had an opinion.

"I don't remember what happened at all, but from what people told me and from what Radio said? I am totally not becoming that person! Ever!" And about that, she was adamant. "I don't even know how I could ever be her!"

"What was she like?" Anakin asked. Given her vehemence, Anakin was picturing something along the lines of "limbless and evil."

But perhaps he was projecting.

"She apparently drank coffee (ew) and enough wine to have a hangover at brunch, wasn't married or dating anyone, and had totally stopped hanging out with all of my friends." She frowned, getting her pronouns mixed up. "Triela was a clone and I didn't know it, and I didn't back up Dinah who got into bad enough trouble that I had to bring her daughter to my world while she got better."

Totally the same as limbless and evil.

"I like the Lieutenant part, but the rest?" She crossed her arms and glared.

Anakin thought of all of the friends from high school who had passed out of his life and gave her a tiny smile. "Some of that is just part of growing up," he said, "but the parts about Triela and Dinah sound worrisome."

"I'll never let anyone need my help and not be there. That's not being a hero, that's being lazy and old and mean. I totally won't do that. Not even if I do end up living in Tokyo City."

"And Radio said I had to 'catch up' with everyone! Francine, Dinah... Even Rikku! That's totally not going to be in any part of my growing up at all."

"Sometimes life does happen," Anakin noted. "People get married, divorced, have kids...occasionally they turn evil..."

Anakin had a slightly special view on the universe.

GREAT, Professor; she hadn't though of THAT!

Momoko's hands dropped to her side and her face fell. "Ah! I became evil?!" That totally explained it!

Anakin tried not to facepalm in class. "I'm pretty sure you weren't evil."

"Well, I was a police officer, so probably not. But it totally feels like it, knowing I let down my friends do much." She sank into her seat. "Totally. Not. Me."

"I don't remember much," Peter said. "But I went through the radio podcasts, and there was something about government work. Which means I was probably dying on the inside of boredom, and I will be doing my best to avoid that fate worse than death."

"The government tends to provide excellent medical coverage and pensions," Anakin replied, probably only reinforcing Peter's fear of death by boring.

"I'm sure it's great for people who love stability," Peter said. "And give me thirty years, and when graying hair starts to ruin my boyish good looks, I'm sure I'll want to settle, and it'll sound great. Right now... no thank you."

"I only remember a little of what happened," Lindsay said truthfully. "I think I was a workaholic, though. I would like to avoid that, if I can. Doesn't sound very fulfilling."

"It can depend on the job," Anakin said. "What were you doing? Do you remember?"

"Some kind of computer software company," Lindsay replied. "I just had this feeling she...er, I didn't have much time for relationships or being social. Seems like kind of a sad life to me."

Anakin nodded. "A bit lonely, too. How will you try to fix it?"

"I ... I liked it," Rinoa admitted, blushing faintly. "I seemed to have more control over myself. My powers. Someone told me I looked comfortable in my own skin. I found a middle path, between hiding and being some kind of crazed dictator queen. I hope that's my future."

Anakin smiled. "That is one of the nice things about being older," he said. "You tend to find your balance."

Ask him about his weekend!

Heeeey. He had a good weekend. Didn't end up dead in the future or anything.

...maybe because it was just before that point in canon. Shhh.

Who is still not buying his daughter a spaceship. He's such a mean dad.

Who else feels like quoting Han Solo today? "Come on, baby, hold together..."
