Jonothon had done about all of the mingling that he cared to do last night at the mixer. Which... wasn't all that much, granted. He'd sat in one of the shadowy corners and had been accosted by bad memories, mostly. Not that there was much of a task. He certainly had his fair share of those, after all.

Today, he decided to try another tactic. He wasn't completely surprised when he got to the library to see that it hadn't been opened yet, but it was certainly a near thing. He contemplated just heading back to his room, but eventually thought better of it, opening the place himself and finding a place to curl up with a good book.

If he did so cross-legged while floating in the air near the back of the stacks, what of it? He was paying enough attention to know if anyone needed help, or anything. Which should be easy enough. This place hadn't changed at all.

"I'll have you know, it could very well be," he replied, laughing a little and giving his head a shake. "Really now, I don't look all that different, do I?"

Well, between the colour change, the weird lips, the being whole and two decades older, Jon...

"You're blue," she laughed. "But that's still your hair. Hello, Jono. It's been entirely too long, hasn't it?"

She only looked a little different. The two decades, and the rather becoming tattoo.

"And then some, really," Jono agreed with a crooked little grin. "I feel as though I ought t'be going door to door, apologizing to people for losing touch. But, you know how life is. Things get... busy."

And they turn you blue.

It's more common where Jono's from than you might think.

"Especially if you're not the talkative type to start," she said, with a teasing sort of sigh. "I know Squall has missed you."

Okay, maybe it was a little unfair to play that card. So?

"So I gathered," Jono replied, smiling faintly. "He hunted me down at th'mixer. Would you believe that I was th'one who had difficulty placing him?"

It was the Wolverine-esque face. It had nearly gotten Squall a fist to the nose, rather than a hello, but then Jono had reasoned out things like how he was too tall to be Logan. And far too well-groomed.

"He doesn't look all that different," she protested, with a laugh. "Out of the three of us, I'd have to say he's changed the least."

She hadn't turned blue or anything, but she did have that rather nice tattoo going.

It was quite fetching, wasn't it? Jono's little smile broadened just a touch.

"I suppose so. His vocabulary hasn't changed much, at any rate. It was his whatever that tipped me off, actually."

"He says it differently now," she said fondly. "So you were at the party last night, then? I didn't see you."

She imagined he had seen her. Her wings had been out, and they were a little hard to miss.

Then again, she had missed him, and he was now blue.

"I wasn't exactly mingling," Jon admitted, shrugging his shoulders dismissively. "I'd found a place in my usual corner. Grey skin blends surprisingly well into th'shadows, did you know?"

Well. Blue-grey skin.

Blue skin.

He was a giant bloody smurf. Or a Nac Mac Feegle, if he was wearing his original New Warriors uniform.

"I can imagine," she said. "I don't really dress to blend, any more."

People expected the Sorceress to stand out. She did her best to comply.

"Honestly, luv, you stood out all along." The blue duster with the wings on the back was difficult to miss, back in their high school days. "You've been doing well, then?"

You almost had to be, in order to be confident enough to go out looking like that. With the wings showing, no less.

"I have," she said softly. "I decided not to go into hiding. It seemed like that wasn't going to work, and I don't want to pretend to be something I'm not. I'm calling myself a diplomat, instead. It seems to be working, so far."

"It looks to me as though diplomacy has been treating you well," Jonothon agreed. "You look... comfortable in yer own skin, if you don't mind my saying so."

She smiled, easily. "I feel it," she said. "I'm not half so afraid as I once was. The children help. I'd never want to do anything to endanger them."

She wondered if the orphans had been anchors, for Edea. And why Edea had never come to Garden with Cid.

"What about you?" she asked. "Not accustomed to the blue yet? It's so unreal, hearing your voice out loud. It's almost how I remember it, but just a little different."

"It's older, is what it is," Jono replied, giving a dismissive shrug of his shoulders. "The blue... I've had fifteen years to get used to that. You know I've spent more of my life like this than I did as that scarecrow-faced mess that you knew back in our high school days?"

That said, no, he wasn't entirely accustomed to the blue. He still couldn't look in the mirror without feeling like the Apocalypse in his blood was going to swallow him whole.

"There are worse things in life than being able to smile."

"Or eat, or talk, or breathe," Rinoa said. "Is it wrong to say I'm happy for you, to have a face again? Even if it's not one that you yourself would have picked."

"It isn't," Jono confirmed, "and... it isn't."

Not wrong of her, and not the face he'd have picked.

"Really, most people don't get to choose their faces. I would have preferred one a little more... subtle." A little more him. "But I'll take what I can get."

He hesitated, and then tilted his head at her, curiously. "How did you... get used to it? I remember back when you were terrified of losing yerself to it."
