apathy, classroom, friday, whatever, are we done now?

George was there on time this week.

"So, I've decided I care about shit, and want to ... I dunno, be a cheerleader," she said, in the same flat sarcastic tone as ever. "No, wait, I don't, that's an April Fool's joke, because somehow it's supposed to be funny to lie to people today. Because being a dick is somehow socially acceptable, so long as it's just today and you think it's really funny. What the fuck ever."

And that was all the more effort she was putting in to this sorry excuse for a holiday.

It really did, and Effy deemed it worth of a snicker as she glanced around the room and leaned back against the wall so she had a decent view of this bonfire of theirs and of the room as a whole.

"No one that'll give a crap," she deduced. Provided they didn't burn the place down. Even then. It was the apathy club for a reason.

"Besides. We can tell them it's a cultural thing." Because it was very British to set things on fire. So what if it was the wrong time of year... And that the only teacher in this room was from the same country. Her logic was only somewhat sound.

It was sound enough for Jono, anyhow. It wasn't like he was terribly choosy, if it meant that he got to burn a hideous ball cap with horns on it.

//Well, then...// He gave her an appraising look for a moment, and then shrugged and lifted his hand to his face. //No matches,// he said, idly, as if that explained the fact that what was under those bandages just happened to be a horrific inferno of psionic flame.

In any case, the wrapping was only pulled down a little bit, and then was smoothed right back into place again in as long as it took to reach out with a crackle of that flame, to strike the first spark of their merry little bonfire.

Effy's eyebrows climbed a touch higher, never having really considered what might be under all those bandages.

"Impressive." And here she had to settle for toying with her lighter when she wanted to melt and burn. "You must come in handy camping."

//Among other things,// Jono replied, shrugging dismissively as he looked into the garbage can again. //But don't get any ideas about marshmallows on sticks. I've heard it before.//

Yes, the hat seemed to be burning nicely.

... It was bubbling a bit, mind. Either there was too much grease in it, or it was some sort of polyester blend. Either way, it was kind of fascinating to watch.

"I'll resist the urge to cook on you," Effy promised, twitching a little smirk and glancing back down at the disgustingly bubbling hat.

"What're the chances that thing's toxic?" she wondered idly. It didn't sound much like she was bothered if it was... just, mildly curious.

Because that would totally solve everything. But really, what did Jono have to worry about? It wasn't like he was breathing it in.

//But I suppose we could move this mess a little closer, if yer worried. Better safe than... you know.//

"I'm not worried." The amount of plastic she'd melted in her own room with windows closed, if she was going to have ill-effects they were already done. It wasn't like she didn't do much worse to herself than breathe in a bit of hat-smoke.

Self-destructive was practically an art form. As for everyone else... well, they were probably far enough away for it not to make a great amount of difference.

She shrugged calmly. "One of the more interesting things to watch. Almost up there with the things that burn green."

//Nearly,// Jono agreed, considering. //I can't imagine there's any great amount of copper in here, though. Pity.//

In all fairness, he half expected the sizzling hat to start spitting off fireworks or something.

"Everyone's gotta have a hobby, right?" Hers was just a slightly unusual one.

A little creepy? Somebody's mun was going to be sleeping with a light on tonight.

//It passes th'time, at least. Music. Reading. Casually lighting fast food uniform components on fire...// The hat was looking more like a blob of melted goo with horns, now. Kind of sinister, really. //The summer months with all those campires around here must not be so terrible for you, then.//

Okay, maybe a lot creepy. But mostly harmless!

"When I'm not being haunted by the guy obsessed with fire regulations," she answered. Worf had been a right pain when he was around. "Had some hard on for fire extinguishers."

Or he just liked safety and irritating Effy a whole lot.

//Ugh. Plonker.//

Jono himself had had some not-terribly-pleasant experiences with fire extinguishers in the last few months that he'd like very much to never repeat.

Ever.
