Two boxes sit on Tara's desk. One is filled with homemade cookies, with a small placard labelled 'To all those who attempted the assignment - help yourselves!'. The other is a bin to return the Master/slave badges at the end of the class.

Tara smiles as the students settle down.

"I told you last week that part of the point of this assignment was to separate out the issues of slavery and abuse. There are many, many issues with slavery, even without abusive elements attached, and I want to tell you how proud I am of all of you for attempting the assignment - especially those of you who were uncomfortable with it. I have a lot I want to say, but I'm going to bite my tongue and let you all speak, first. Tell me about your experiences with the assignment - what was challenging for you? What was easier than you thought it would be? Do you have any insights you would like to share?"

[ooc: If you would provide linkage to any RPed assignment bits and pieces, I would be forever grateful when it comes time for grading. Also, those of you who made icons? I adore you, and worship your icon-fu.]

Before class lets out, Tara makes a short announcement.

"I would not ask anything of you that I am unwilling to do myself - including act as a slave. Anyone who completed the assignment is eligible to 'win' me as a slave, under the same terms of the assignment as you performed. I realise many of you are probably glad that this is over, but if you are interested, or want revenge, please put your name down on the sheet provided. I will post this as a voting list, and the involved parties will decide as a class who is to Master me, and what is to be done with me."

[ooc: Off to bed. Play nicely, see you all in the morning. Um, my morning. *as usual, kicks stupid timezones*]

"It's definitely most important for the kid to get taken care of. If the parents can't, won't, or are really shitty at doing it, then someone should step in and remove the child from that situation. Preferably sooner, rather then later." ~~Faith totally didn't have like, personal issues with this, or anything. Nope. Not at all.~~

"So what justifies taking a child away from their parents? How bad does it have to get before someone is allowed to step in?" Tara closes her eyes for a moment, and then reminds Faith, "we're talking about in your ideal world, not in this one."

~~Tara doesn't have issues either. There should be a club. For the issue-less. All the Happy Home Lives people could join, and have barbeques together.~~

Faith nodded. "Of course, ideal world- what else could we talk about? Anyway, yeah. If it's regularly violent, the only parent, or both of them, have drug or alcohol problems that make them incapable of responsibly caring for a child, and if there's severe emotional abuse. I mean, like, give the parent a warning or something, maybe, but definitely get the damn kid out of there."

~~They should start a club. They could play softball and support each other at the games and hang each other's artwork on their fridges.~~

"In this world, the foster care system leaves a little to be desired. In this hypothetical ideal world we're talking about, how would you make sure the child didn't go out of a bad situation and into a worse one?"

That's it. Tara's hanging up invites and having a family dinner at her dorm, where we will not talk about all the things we don't ever say to anyone. There's space on the fridge for Faith's fingerpainting. Does she prefer sweet potatoes, or peas?

"Well, obviously most people who are going to adopt a kid are good people- they're like, putting in effort. There should be hardcore background checks, and the kids should get checked up on periodically. And maybe a limit on how many kids you can take in- I mean, kids are damn expensive." Faith shrugged.
