Teamwork 101 - Period 1 [Class #10] [Monday]

Rikku was bouncing on her toes as the students filed in. They should come to expect that. It happened a lot.

“So!” she said excitedly. “Last week, you looked over some charities. This week, first of all, each group has to tell us what charity you’re working towards. And if you guys didn’t make a decision for sure last week, then whoever speaks up first gets to pick the charity, so think fast!”

Reno grinned as he leaned back against the desk. He was totally the sedate one, balancing out the pair.

“If you don’t like what your teammate picks, we can have Nerf-bat battles or somethin’ on the grounds after class to settle it, yo. Your folks ain’t here anymore. We can get away with that kinda shit.” Reno was clearly the best role-model ever. “Whether you got your charity picked or not, this is the week you guys figure out how you’ll be raisin’ money for ‘em, though. You got plenty of options, at least. Gettin’ your hands on money around here ain’t all that difficult, compared to some places I’ve seen.”

“Right,” Rikku agreed, nodding to her co-teacher. “And raising money doesn’t have to be a drudge, either. There are lots of ways to do it. For one, you can offer a service, or some goods, like car washes or bake sales. Neither of those are things people need, but it’s stuff they might want, and if it’s for a good cause, they might jump at it. And both are cheap to set up, so you don’t have to worry about burning up all that money you’re trying to raise.”

She didn’t exactly recommend car washes here, considering that there really weren’t any cars. It was still a useful example.

“So,” Reno clapped his hands together and grinned at the class. “Pick out what sort of fundraiser you guys are gonna do, and start tacklin’ how you’re gonna go about makin’ it work, yo. You got plenty of freedom to go with, here. Trick is workin’ as a team to pull it all together.”

"But how are we going to raise money?" Tahiri jumped in. Jedi not being particularly focused on material possessions, finances weren't her strong poing. "I know bake sales seem to be a popular method around here, but should we do something more unusual?"

Karla was in this group. It was a valid concern.

. . . see how diplomatic she was about phrasing that, though? There was hope for her yet.

"Maybe we could sell flowers... or chocolate? I'm sure we could get some of the places in town to donate merchandise for us."

Momoko had had a sort of awesome idea totally NOT AT ALL inspired by her roommate's reactions to his mother's visit.

"We could have a rummage sale!" She bounced, hoping that was the right word. "People could donate things, like stuff their parents gave them this weekend? And we could go around town and ask for things, too! And if we have anything left over, we could donate the actual things!"

Karla's emotions were still all a-tangle from yesterday; first her run-in with Warren, Jr and then her conversation with Morton before they'd left. Anyone talking to her would find her a little subdued today.

And if you thought their team-teaching abilities were good, you should see them when there were monsters to kill. Small and quick could handle just about anything Spira or Gaia could throw at them.

Except maybe triplets. Damn triplets.

Not that Reno was thinking about that. He was far more interested in looking up charity organizations and contemplating maybe doing some sort of fundraiser, as well. He'd have to poke Rikku about tag-teaming with him on one of the charities that the students didn't snag.

"Who says we are?" Reno grinned right on back, shooting her a wink before turning his nose toward the ceiling, thinking over their options. "You got any kinda charity you wanna raise funds for, babe?"

Re: Talk to the Teachers! - TEAM10

"We, uh..." Reno pursed his lips faintly. He kind of didn't have money, really. His share of what they'd made offing monsters in Spira had gone back to Edge, and what he didn't need for himself out of his pay from the school went back to the Turks, because he was paying the wages for a secretary, so that a guy who didn't much want him around anymore wouldn't overwork himself.

... Wow, that had worked out nicely for Tseng, hadn't it?

"You know, that sounds great," he decided, not about to admit to any of that, regardless. It just meant that he was going to have to sneak back to Gaia to earn Gil the good old-fashioned way.

Proud, proud Reno.

"Yeah, I ain't never made a cookie in my life, and I ain't about to start now," Reno replied, snorting at the idea. "But I guess we could get people to give us money not to cook, yo."

Yeah, that would do a lot of good.

"No sellin' shit. I say whatever it is we do, it's somethin' where we gotta earn our way out. One of them pledge-type deals. People give a certain amount, an' however much they give, we do more of... whatever."

Well-explained, Reno. Well-explained.

They just are.

But I'll be back and forth between here and not-triangles for the rest of the day. I have life drawing homework to do. SO CLOSE NOW. SO CLOSE.
