Classrooms Around Campus, All Day Saturday

It was Saturday, and that meant Career Day! Unbeknownst to all the students who had taken the career placement test, Fandom had apparently conspired to place them all in workshops that didn't quite fit the answers they gave for their tests. The island was tricky that way. Not to mention that the workshops that the island had planned were somewhat different from the workshops an ordinary school might offer on Career Day. As in quite a lot different.

So the classrooms all around the school were filled with visitors from off-island and island alike, all of whom had been led to believe that they would be teaching eager-minded groups of students, excited to learn about their prospective care
ers. This assumption was not necessarily accurate.

Well, there was a greeting that was sure to get Jeremy grinning and looking mighty pleased with himself.

"I might not say famous," he said, (probably a little fake) modest. "But I'd say I'm pretty well known, yeah. I'm Jeremy Darling."

"Jeremy Darling?" Jack asked excitedly, bouncing up and down. "Of the New York Darlings?"

He knew everyone in New York. Everyone worth knowing, anyway. He was just annoying enough for his friend Karen to take him to all the parties, and once he'd heard a name a couple of times in a row, he didn't tend to forget.

Of course, the Darlings that he could have heard of might well be an entirely different family. That would be embarrassing. And it had happened to him a few times in the past, so.

Jeremy had already been looking pretty alert, but now he seemed to perk up even more. Seriously, could there actually be someone here who had a clue as to who he was? or at least his family?

The answer, of course, was probably a resounding no but he was an optimist, dammit. "That's right!" he said, practically beaming. "Definitely of the New York Darlings! You know us?"

"Of course!" Jack exclaimed, still bouncing. Of course in his mind, that is. His mind was usually a chimpanzee clapping cymbals, so there wasn't too much to be said for his credibility. "My best friend is Karen Walker," he said, clearly expecting a similar response.

Ah, high-society people.

"Karen Walker?" Yeah, Jeremy had no idea who that was. However, it wasn't like he could name half the women that frequented his mother and older sister's social circles, so he was pretty adept at faking recognition with an easy smile.

"Of course! How is Karen?"

"She's good!" Jack chirped.

Jack, of course, had no idea that neither of them had any idea what they were talking about. Himself included. He wasn't bright, no.

"Yeah, yeah, she's great. She and Stan just had their anniversary in Cancun. Or maybe it was Cuba."

Also, his geography? Not too great.

There really was a reasonable chance they would not figure out how based on nothing at all this conversation was before it was over.

"Either would be just as sweet," Jeremy replied agreeably. "We were just in Hawaii, and I think I might recommend the resort to Karen – I mean, our Karen, obviously, my sister – for her honeymoon."

You know, the inevitable next time she got married.
