Classrooms Around Campus, All Day Saturday

It was Saturday, and that meant Career Day! Unbeknownst to all the students who had taken the career placement test, Fandom had apparently conspired to place them all in workshops that didn't quite fit the answers they gave for their tests. The island was tricky that way. Not to mention that the workshops that the island had planned were somewhat different from the workshops an ordinary school might offer on Career Day. As in quite a lot different.

So the classrooms all around the school were filled with visitors from off-island and island alike, all of whom had been led to believe that they would be teaching eager-minded groups of students, excited to learn about their prospective care
ers. This assumption was not necessarily accurate.

Jeff so did not want to be here. You had no idea.

So in protest against his forced participation in this stupid career fair, he was going to be sitting over there and texting. Who? That was a secret.

Jack had no shame. None at all.

"Hey there, cutie," he said, sauntering up to Jeff. "You look a little down."

"Yeah, sashay away," Jeff said, without taking his eyes off his phone.

His apathy also had no shame. Whose shamelessness would win this battle?

"Ooooh," Jack said, peering over and trying to get a look at the phone. "Who ya textin', handsome?"

He thought this was working.

Okay, so this guy apparently did not get a hint. Jeff considered whether or not he was willing to work up the effort to lie at this guy until he went away.

No. No, he most definitely was not.

"Look, I said beat it," Jeff said, yanking his phone away juuust enough to keep it out of Jack's sight. "Not much for the pop culture references, are you?"

"Actually, you were referencing RuPaul's drag race," Jack declared promptly, eager to impress. "It's her catchphrase." Then, in the tone of one who is trying not to embarrass somebody, he added in a stage whisper, "But I'm actually not a drag queen."

Jeff glanced up from his phone... briefly. To give Jack the once-over. And not in the interested way.

"No, I can tell," he said, turning his attention back to his phone. "Those drag queens are fierce."

"Oh, he-e-e-e-e-ell no," Jack said, holding up a hand. "Did you just tell me that I'm not fierce? 'Cause I can be fierce."

Oh, Jack. Oh, Jack.

"Oh, please," Jeff said, jabbing the keys on his phone. "If you're fierce, then so are sea-cucumbers. You know what they do? They flop around on the ocean floor."

Jack's jaw dropped. "I am appalled by that accusation!" he declared, clutching a hand to his heart as though Jeff had just insulted his very being.

Clearly he expected Jeff to, you know, care.

Jeff, being Jeff, did not care. In fact, Jeff didn't care so hard he almost came back around and cared again.

But only almost.

"Not helping your case, bucko," he said. Apathically. "Anyway, that brings me back around to-- what was my point? Oh, right. Beat it."

"Gladly!" Jack all but screeched, sounding very like a howler monkey. He waited for Jeff to change his mind, and then, when that didn't happen, he simply stormed off. Loudly.

Score one for Jeff's apathy!

Okay, so he kind of enjoyed being completely unresponsive to all the noise Jack made upon departure. He was a dick cool that way.
