Library [2/4/11]

Today Wesley was going through some of his Watcher-y books. He hadn't looked at them in a while, what with the whole not-being-a-Watcher-anymore thing, but it couldn't hurt to take another look at them. Even though he sort of had most of them memorized.

She'd already made a stop to see someone at the diner, and that got Ariel thinking she should and see what Wesley was up to. She hadn't talked to him that much at all; what a terrible big sibling!

So she was bouncing into the library to try to remedy that. "Hello, Wesley!" she said, never one to be able to keep a library voice at all. "How's it going?"

Oh, gosh, the outdoor voices. This was now the second week in a row the library had been filled with bubbly people talking loudly. Sigh.

"Quite well, thank you," Wesley replied, keeping his tone somewhat quiet in an attempt to subtly encourage Ariel to do the same. "And you?"

"Great!" Ariel's response was clearly not influenced by anything subtle at all. "I came in to check on my little sibling, because I've been totally failing on that and I'm totally sorry, Wesley. What'cha been up to?"

Oh! Right. He had a big sibling. He totally forgot about that, since it didn't really make that much sense that this was his third semester here and he still had a big sibling. Whatever.

"Not terribly much," he said. "Books, really."

It was a good thing she hadn't caught him a couple of weeks ago. Somehow he expected that the book on relationship advice that he was reading wouldn't be quite as scholarly-looking.

Ariel, never to be deterred by short little answers like that, just grinned and leaned on the desk. "What kind of books? Any really good ones I should check out?"

Books on Slayer history? Probably not Ariel's favorite subject.

"Mmm, doubtful," he said. "Er. Not to be rude, of course. Simply that they're for a rather specialized set."

Um, still rude.

"Ohhh?" asked Ariel, leaning in with an arched eyebrow that suggested if Wesley kept up like that, he was only going to be feeding her curiosity, here.

"Oh," he agreed. Wait, that didn't even make sense.

"That is to say, ah, they're mostly historical volumes. Although there's quite a bit of fiction in the shelves that you might be interested in."

Trying to get rid of her quick, Wes?

"Oh, I'm not interested in any books," Ariel admitted easily enough, shrugging a shoulder. "So is that the kind of stuff you like to read? History books and stuff?"

Gasp! Not interested in books? But this was a library!

There was definitely some shock on his face as Wesley answered, "Yes, for the most part. Also science. And the paranormal."

And memoirs, for some reason.

"Oh!" Ariel bounced slightly. "Do you know much about astrology, Wesley?"

At least she was easily distracted, right?

Um, not really?

"Not particularly," he said. "I could help you find a book on it, though."

Aaaaand they were right back to the part where Ariel didn't like books. Sorry. It didn't quite sink in.

It wasn't so much that she didn't like books; it was simply that she was more interested in talking to Wesley right now.

"Oh, I already checked out a few earlier this week," Ariel said. "I'm doing horoscopes for the newspaper, you see, so I figured it would be good to study up."

So Henry had missed a few shifts due to something that may or may not have looked a lot like being stuck in his future wife's basement during a snowstorm in 1982.

... of course he came back to find a flood of paperwork.That was never cured via time travel.
