Teamwork 101 -- Period 1 [Class #5] [Monday]

They were in the classroom today and Genesis had, as was his norm, gotten there first. Let it not be said, after all, that Genesis did not keep his promises.

On the desk lay an extravagant bouquet of moth orchids, and enough truly expensive beadwork, jewels, pearls, ribbon, to quite firmly nudge the whole thing over the realm of normal and into the land of ridiculous. An embossed card simply read ‘Reno’ on it.

Genesis was smugly pleased with himself, though he did not look it, gazing out over the class with cool eyes.

Reno was giving the bouquet the most baffled stare that he could manage. Something like that had to cost more than triple what he made in a year, as a teacher or as a Turk. And Turks got paid, and paid well. Served him right for telling Genesis that he demanded flowers for a dance, last class.

“Yo, rookies?” Yeah, Reno was a smidgen distracted today. The hell, flowers. “Today, we’re gonna be makin’ you all put them powers of cooperation that we’ve been makin’ you work on to use.”

Genesis leaned back in his chair and smiled. “You’ve all been paired up,” with one group of three, “and between now and next week, you’re to go in your group to at least one business in town, and sing for whomever is working that day.” He had no such distractions to keep him from teaching, after all.

“Consider this an exercise in working together in a situation that may be considered unpleasant,” he added, “and remember that your teachers, too, will be doing it.”

At least Genesis had a fabulous voice.

And Reno hated him all the more for it. Damn you, Gackt.

“Get to it, Rookies,” he sighed, waving a hand at the group as a whole. “And if anyone wants to give me a hand with this damn thing after class, I’ll give ‘em a flower or somethin’. There ain’t no way I’m gonna be able to carry all these as far as my office, yo.”

Genesis smirked.

[Wait for the OCD is uuuup!]

Oh yeah, Chloe couldn't not take her eyes off of the bouquet. She was pretty sure she had never seen anything like that before.

Wow, that bouquet was . . .

Tahiri couldn't stop staring at it in horror. Horror that bore a slight hint of being impressed, granted, but horror nonetheless.

Momoko really expected no less of a bouquet from Rhapsodos-sama. And really, if Reno didn't appreciated it, he should totally give it to someone who would.

... Wait, SINGING?!

Squall very nearly cast Fire at the bouquet, to put everyone out of its misery, but decided he didn't care enough to bother.

Triela was positive that Genesis had cooked this up just to screw with her. And the rest of the class was along for the ride.

She did not approve.

Effy slid into a seat opposite her. "Not an expert singer, are you?"

"YES!" Momoko clapped her hands. She had Triela as a partner! They could totally go get some cocoa afterwards! Oooh. Triela had a good voice, too! At least from what Momoko could tell. Had she ever heard her sing? She looked about and waited for Triela to make her way over so that they could PLAN.

This was going to be a disaster.

At least Triela managed not to scowl at her partner?

Unfortunately for Squall, it was only his coat that was inspired by Gackt, whatever the J-pop star might think.

He sat stewing and hoped that Wesley hated singing as much as he did.

Jason looked very uncomfortable as he thought about their assignment. Singing? Were they trying to torture the poor people in town?

"Try not to look so excited," Karla deadpanned. "It's not like they're asking us to dance, too."

Wasn't among her wittiest comments, but she was kind of exhausted, okay?

Chloe had heard only bits and pieces from the radio the last few days.

However, that was enough to warrant getting a coffee with extra mocha for her friends and co-TA.

Preeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeetty much. Karla had a brief moment when the sheer gravitas of that bouquet made her stop and stare in mingled horror and fascination, but the rest of the class saw her brooding.

Reno was totally amused.

Reno was amused in that kind of way that saw him wrinkling his nose and occasionally reaching out to poke at the bouquet, as if he was expecting something in there to leap out and bite him.

... Nothing did. Which only made this weirder.
