There was no doubt that Ariel was definitely excited to have Glee Club start up again; you could see it not only in the spread of drinks and snacks she had ready, but the fact that she'd gotten there really early to get it all set up and play a little bit of piano to make sure it was in tune as if she knew how to actually tune a piano ~~but she could tuna fish!~~. But, eventually, hopefully, people would start showing up and then she could get things started.

"Hi, everyone!" Ariel veritably bounced at them as she waved. "Welcome back to Glee Club, unless you're new, in which case, regular welcome! It's the first day back after the break, so all we're going to do today is a little bit of singing and a little bit of talking about what we'd like to do this semester. Do we want to do another performance? Should we maybe look into some competitions? Have a karaoke night at Caristas? Anything in particular you'd like to sing more of this semester? All that kind of stuff! But first!

"Singing! Just like last time, let's each introduce ourselves through song! Let everyone know who you are, why you're here, and then pick a song, any song at all, that you'd like to sing. It could tell something about you, or be your favorite song, or even just be the song you had stuck in your head when you woke up this morning. Anything you want! Who wants to go first?"

Quinn could have come up with a laundry list, but...

"Staying on Student Council and meeting a guy who doesn't suck would be a start," she said. "What about you?"

Ariel giggled a little at that, but how difficult could finding a guy who didn't suck around here be? Granted, she had her eye on someone who thought Cheetos pizza was a brilliant idea, so she might just have some crush blinders on.

"Just more of the usual, getting involved in everything and having a good time," she said, shrugging slightly. "I'm really excited to see how the play casting goes. It's a musical, this time, so I'm thrilled! And I just tried out for cheerleading, too! Plus I'm doing horoscopes in the newspaper! Oh! What's your sign, Quinn? I can make sure yours is good."

To Quinn, a guy who didn't suck also meant a guy who was into her, knew he had to pay for dinner, didn't try to hard to talk her into having sex, was tall with nice hair, had a sense of humor ... yeah, crush blinders didn't so much work.

Unless Puck was involved, but that was special.

"Taurus," she said, and was anyone really surprised? "I'm impressed you have time for all of that. Are you going for a lead in the play?"

"Do you think I could?" asked Ariel, eyes lighting up. "Ohmygosh, that would be great! I definitely think I've got the voice for it, if I'm honest, but who knows? I didn't go for any particular part; I just sang a couple of songs and Mr. Rhapsodos picks who he thinks'll be best for whatever part."

Actually, Quinn mostly didn't see the point of trying out for something and not going for a lead, but if Ariel was going to take it as a compliment...

"Good luck," she said. "I'll actually come to see it this time if you get a good part. I skipped the last one."

"Aww, the last one was fun! I was kind of the main dwarf, which was something, but it was nice because it wasn't so big a part that Mr. Rhapsodos got mad at me for being late a lot..."

"Wow, somebody on the island actually cares if kids show up late?"

Quinn was impressed. She didn't think anyone even noticed. (Well, except Gunther.)

"Well, Mr. Rhapsodos is....I wouldn't say he cares. He doesn't yell at me like my music teacher or Daddy or my sisters did back home, but he has a very good Disapproval Look."

"Sounds like my parents," Quinn said ruefully. "No yelling, just looks and being very disappointed in you, Quinnie. I'd almost take yelling."

"I don't know," Ariel sounded a bit skeptical. "Yelling can get pretty bad, especially if it gets to the point of smashing things..."

"Your dad smashes things?"

Excuse Quinn if she yelped a little. It came from being oh so very upper middle class repressed.

Ariel sucked in a breath, then let it out in a sigh. Her head shook slowly, sadly. "Destroyed my entire collection," she lamented. "He was really, really, really mad..."

Quinn blinked. "Wow, your collection of what?" she asked. "That's really, really awful."

"Everything," Ariel said, with a sad, rueful little smile. "I mean, I've been able to build it up and then some since coming here, but it's still kind of sad to think of all those treasures gone. It took me a really long time to build it all up..."
