The classroom was decidedly boring today. The Doctor may have had too much fun programming the perfect quaint classroom. There was a blackboard! And chalk residue! And bluebirds outside the window!

"Welcome to Adventures, Capers and Escapes. I need to not let Rory name my classes. If you need anything and can't find me, or if you want to lodge a complaint that will fall upon deaf ears, these are my TAs, Bobby and Cara. Cara, show them your boots. The number one rule in this class is wear sensible shoes. Cara is the only exception to this rule because she has an unusual centre of gravity that makes her impossible boots possible. This is Bobby. He does wear sensible shoes, but if you're in need of a short answer, ask for one or you've only yourself to blame for what happens next.

Sensible shoes! And clean underwear. Adventure usually lasts longer than you expect, then leaves you in the middle of nowhere without your bag of toiletries.

Now, you should always be prepared for adventure. The best kind happens when you don't plan on it. Talk to each other about what you should start carrying in your pockets to prepare yourself for an unexpected adventure. Try to make them interesting. No boringness allowed."

Besides bickering at someone else's answer, Charlie supposed she had to give her own, right? Although her 'adventures', and she would be really against calling them like that, were never planned.

"Identification, money, a communication device. And a weapon, something easy to hide." Like her mind.

Claudia figured Charlie was onto something there, though the last "adventure" she'd been on, three out of those four things would have been almost completely useless. "And a utility knife, at the very least. One of those leatherman tools with, like, fifty different functions." Since her cordless drill was a bit unwieldy for regular pocket carrying.

So that made Charlie a...psychic utility knife? Good work Claudia, you just made her smile a little. "Yes, a multi-tool would come in handy. The other three are more if you want to leave point A and arrive at point B without having to change your name, I guess."

"Or having to hitchhike," Claudia decided. "Which, you know, totally useful." Assuming you weren't stuck in an underwater distopia. "I'm Claudia, by the way."

"Hey, hitchhike is totally awesome until the trucker dude gets too friendly." And she knew about it; it had been so not cool to have to spend valuable energy Pushing a seriously troubled guy after a week of running away non stop.

There was no chance in hell she would consider the water distopia scenario. "Charlie, freshly arrived. Gone in adventures much?"

"Back home only if you count blowing up a bathroom or two as an adventure. Around here, though? Kind of par for the course."

"Yay."

Okay, so she wasn't thrilled to hear that, but she didn't make a face neither. She just...didn't mind it much. "Any survival tips? Or should I take a class on that?" She wasn't even kidding.

Claudia considered that seriously. "I dunno. Just, be flexible. The monkey-pony isn't going to give you time to stand there going 'holy crap, it's a monkey-pony' before it attacks."

"Got it. Even though I have no idea of what a monkey-pony is, but I would burn the thing on sight." That's how she rolled, anyway.

"The name is pretty self-explanatory on that one. Did your big sib give you the whole spiel?"

She shrugged. "Well, she didn't make a list..." And really, who would?

Claudia nodded. "It'd be a really long list."

"The sort of list that drives you mad halfway writing it, I'm sure." And she sort of liked Quinn, so no driving Big Sister mad for her please.

"And imagine if you left something off. . . ." Claudia trailed off. "You know, I don't know how often the big stuff repeats itself, so maybe a list wouldn't even be that useful."

"Well, you know, if you want to make note of every fucked up creature and thing you've ever ran into...and lose your sanity, sure."

She always had an answer, Claudia.

"Well, it would be very scientific." Claudia grinned. She was getting to like Charlie.

"It would certainly be a list made of win. The monkey pony alone is." She grinned back. Hooray for meeting cool people.

"Well, it's made from a monkey and a pony. So that might be double win."

"...Wait, which half goes where?"

Oh, mental images.

"They kinda had this whole centaur thing going on."

"Huh, I couldn't imagine how they woulf walk with a huge pony head and a tiny monkey body anyway."

Charlie didn't think the conversation was weird enough yet.

"Well, you'd clearly have to use a tiny pony and a huge monkey."
