Adventures, Capers and Escapes - Danger Shop, Thursday, Period 3

The classroom was decidedly boring today. The Doctor may have had too much fun programming the perfect quaint classroom. There was a blackboard! And chalk residue! And bluebirds outside the window!

"Welcome to Adventures, Capers and Escapes. I need to not let Rory name my classes. If you need anything and can't find me, or if you want to lodge a complaint that will fall upon deaf ears, these are my TAs, Bobby and Cara. Cara, show them your boots. The number one rule in this class is wear sensible shoes. Cara is the only exception to this rule because she has an unusual centre of gravity that makes her impossible boots possible. This is Bobby. He does wear sensible shoes, but if you're in need of a short answer, ask for one or you've only yourself to blame for what happens next.

Sensible shoes! And clean underwear. Adventure usually lasts longer than you expect, then leaves you in the middle of nowhere without your bag of toiletries.

Now, you should always be prepared for adventure. The best kind happens when you don't plan on it. Talk to each other about what you should start carrying in your pockets to prepare yourself for an unexpected adventure. Try to make them interesting. No boringness allowed."

Cara...did not actually have pockets. "My agiels," she said, drumming her fingers against the empty holster.

Even after half a year she still didn't like not having them on her at all times.

"What's an agiel?" Chloe asked.

"A weapon," Cara replied shortly. "You tend to have more chance of surviving adventures if you're armed."

Chloe nodded, not saying anything to that. She wasn't very skilled on weapons, but she had never heard of that one.

"I used to carry a knife everywhere."

For about a week between reaching safety and getting sent here.

"I think string would be important," Bobby said thoughtfully.

Clark stared at Bobby for a minute before having to ask, "Why string?"

"Because it's lightweight and useful," he said. "You always need to tie things. I mean, I guess rope would be better - or that elven rope that they get in King of the Bracelets, but I don't know how to fit that in a pocket. Unless you're a giant with really big pockets."

"A 10 foot pole, 50 feet of silk rope, small steel mirror, and caltrops I suppose it would be cheating to say a comlink," Leia grinned.

"I don't know what that is," Elphaba said, apparently channeling Temperance Brennan. "But I'll trust you to say that is cheating if it truly is an inappropriate answer."

"It's a communication device," Leia said. "Something I do always carry."

"I... usually only have Kianah in my pockets," Helen said thoughtfully. "And a bit of money."

Re: Class Activity

[identity profile] shes-got-legs.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 03:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"Ooh, what's Kianah?" asked Ariel, always excited to learn about new things.

Re: Class Activity

[identity profile] elephantgadget.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
The tiny little fennec fox poked her head out of Helen's pocket, poping up to see who was calling her name and if perhaps they might have a treat for her.

"That is a Kianah," Helen said dryly, but the softness in her face as she pulled Kianah out and stroked her gently belied her tone.

The thought of needing shoes when you went adventuring made Ariel giggle a little to herself, since she'd done most of her adventuring without one, but she sobered up when confronted with the very serious question at hand.

"I can never decide," she admitted woefully. "So I usually just carry around a bag. Actually, I'd say the bags the most important, because then you have a place to put the things you find when you adventure, and maybe those'll be useful later, too!"

Re: Class Activity

[identity profile] pyromanyac.livejournal.com 2011-01-06 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Until you lose the bag, of course." Didn't it always happen anyway? "What would you put in it anyway?"

She might be taking mental notes.

Besides bickering at someone else's answer, Charlie supposed she had to give her own, right? Although her 'adventures', and she would be really against calling them like that, were never planned.

"Identification, money, a communication device. And a weapon, something easy to hide." Like her mind.

Claudia figured Charlie was onto something there, though the last "adventure" she'd been on, three out of those four things would have been almost completely useless. "And a utility knife, at the very least. One of those leatherman tools with, like, fifty different functions." Since her cordless drill was a bit unwieldy for regular pocket carrying.

So that made Charlie a...psychic utility knife? Good work Claudia, you just made her smile a little. "Yes, a multi-tool would come in handy. The other three are more if you want to leave point A and arrive at point B without having to change your name, I guess."

"A paper clip, some chewing gum, and a rubber band!" Hank answered definitively.

He put those down on his desk and fished in his pocket to see what else was there.

"Some fuzz, and... sixty-three cents!"

"A spare bowstring, Swiss Army knife, compass, ID, money or a credit card, and a cell phone or communicator." Or both. "Oh, and a pen. You never know when you'll need a pen." So basically, the current contents of Roy's pockets.

"Some dried food, flint and steel . . . a few dinars wouldn't hurt, in case I have to buy my food, ink and quills, and my scrolls," Gabrielle listed off without even thinking about it.

Cell phones and other methods of communication, despite her being familiar with them by now, didn't make the list; yelling someone's name repeatedly in slow motion didn't require you to carry a thing.

"Well, my wand for starters," Alex said, knowing magic might come in handy if they ended up in a tight situation. "Definitely money and some sort of ID. A cell phone could come in handy, too, if there's service."

She knew she was repeating what some of the others had said but that was pretty much what she had in her pockets at any given time. With the exception of her wand, of course. That was in her boot.

"Blasters,"

Goose didn't tend to wear pockets but blasters were something that he tried to always have on him when he could.
