Library, Tuesday!

Rinoa had a number of things on her mind today -- the class about powers yesterday being one of the larger ones -- but she was determined not to let it distract her from her library duties. There might be new students, today! Rinoa was going to do her utmost to welcome them.

(Old students were perfectly welcome, too.)

"Rinoa!"

Usually, Ariel stopped by the music store to bother Jono, but she'd done that at the library earlier that week, and she hadn't seen Rinoa in, like, practically forever, and so it was off to the library after work again.

"New semester time!"

And totally failing to use her library voice, too.

"Ariel!" The librarian was just going to have to deal with squeeing noises, because Rinoa was totally hopping around the desk to give her BFF a hug.

"How was break? Oh, Hyne, do I ever need to talk to you. Welcome back! How are you?"

Hugs! Totally mandatory!

"You do?" Ariel asked after giving her friend a good squeeze ~~not dirty~~ and pulling away to give her big, wide eyes. "About what? Something good? And it was great! I went home, you know, saw my family. Tell me what you have to talk to me about!"

"Boys," Rinoa admitted, blushing. "How was your trip home? I went to Louisiana" -- she still wasn't sure she was pronouncing that one right -- "and I got you a Christmas gift, but I left it in my room. I don't really celebrate or anything, but I couldn't get everyone else gifts and not you, right?"

"That's fine!" Ariel said. "That gives me time to get you a gift back! And who cares about my trip home? I hung out with my sisters and went on adventures with Flounder; let's talk about your news."

"We'll exchange gifts mid-January!" Rinoa laughed. "It's not really my holiday, anyway, so we can do it however we want. Aaaaand ... it's about Squall."

The silly grin on her face kind of hinted at the rest.

"About Squall, huh?" asked Ariel, meeting Rinoa's grin with a smirk of her own before looking at her with playful suspicion and adding, "This wouldn't have anything to do with the fact that I think I actually saw him smiling on New Years, would it?"

"He's been doing that lately," Rinoa laughed. "Ever since the Labyrinth. He's been trying to reach out to people, and smiling, and then -- at midnight? He kissed me."

The happy wriggle that went with that was epic.

It was impossible not to giggle at such wriggling. "Awwwww!" Ariel gushed. "...wait, has he not kissed you before then? Or was just extra special because it was midnight and new years and all that?"

"Never," she said solemnly. "I kissed him once before he had time to react, and he kissed me once when we weren't ourselves? But he never kissed me before. And I got mad because I thought it was just New Year's and he could pretend he didn't mean it, but he said he did. Soooooo ..."

She wriggled, again.

"I can't believe you two haven't kissed before!" Ariel said, with a little bit of an excited squeal, and she now got to bouncing. "How was it? Was it amazing? I bet it was. It had to have been!"

"It was," Rinoa laughed. "And then there was more kissing and I accused him of just running away again and he said he wasn't. So I think we're ... like, official? And everything? For real?"

"It's about time!" Ariel announced with a laugh. "Now when's the wedding?"

Rinoa rolled her eyes, still giggling. "Oh, come on," she said. "Let's see if he can handle being my boyfriend for more than three days without hyperventilating, first."

She still didn't trust him not to turn tail and run. Although he didn't seem like he wanted to. Amazing how different it was, now.

"Hey, if you guys get to five," Ariel pointed out, "you'll last longer than me and Bruce."

Rinoa was going to count on her fingers.

"I'll let you know on Thursday?" she said, before waving it off. "That's totally Bruce's loss, anyway. Do you have your eyes on anyone in particular, now?"

"Noooooooooooooooo," said Ariel, in a way that clearly meant yeeeeeeeesssss. "Of course not. No one at all."

"Well, now you have to tell me!" Rinoa giggled. "Come onnnnn, I wouldn't hold out on you!"

Henry was back in the stacks today. Somebody had placed a special order and he was having a devil of a time tracking down all the books they wanted.
