Chemistry; Tuesday, Period One [ 01/04 ]

Knowing she was on a time frame here, Kūkaku wasn’t going to waste a single minute on her introduction to her class. She kept an eye on the clock, and, once it hit nine, she started in, not caring if any of the students weren’t there yet. They shouldn’t be late, anyway, really.

So nine o’clock hit and the large breasted, scantily clad, one-armed teacher with the two giant twin servants standing like pillars behind her slapped her hand on the desk at the front of the classroom. “Chemistry,” she announced. “Yer gonna learn it, and yer learnin’ it from the best. I’m Kūkaku Shiba; these two behind me are Koganehiko and Shiroganehiko, and they’re going to be handin’ out your textbooks. Yes, textbooks. No, we’re not going to blow them up.”

Yet.

“There’s also a currently handwavey syllabus included, and they’ll include the chapters you’ll read each day for class. Ya want a class that looks good on transcripts, ya gotta do some actual class work. But don’t worry. It’s not gonna be boring, I can promise you that. I don’t do boring. So what’s chemistry? It’s the science of matter and the changes it goes through. An’ the building blocks of matter, protons and neutrons and electrons that make up atoms, are all put together to make up elements. Open up your books to the appendix and you’ll find your common Periodic Table of Elements. These elements come together and make reactions or make matter, or whatever. For example, take two parts hydrogen and one part oxygen ya get....”

She smacked a glass on the table, splashing its contents out. “Water. Equal parts sodium and chloride, ya get...”

Sprinkling something on the table. “Salt. And take phosphorus and oxygen and put them together and you get..."

Kūkaku glanced up at the clock and held out a finger. "Wait for it. ...And..."

The door to the classroom opened; she snapped her fingers and a loud explosion ignited just as Genesis walked through; the glorious, though harmless burst completely overrode whatever she said, at first.

He’d been asked to show at precisely ten after nine. Knowing Kūkaku, and having taken a glance at the course list and arched a brow at what she was teaching—innocuously titled ‘Chemistry’, but he was unfooled considering the personality behind the class—was well prepared for anything.

Which meant, come precisely ten after nine, he flung the door open and entered the room in a sweep of red leather, suitably dramatic, he thought, to amuse her. (Besides, it amused him to put on the show.)

He was… as the explosion went up practically in his face, quite amused. And, because it would irk her (he couldn’t be seen as being too nice) carelessly waved a hand in front of his face to clear the smoke. “Not,” he said very dryly, “your best work.”

Of course, she probably didn’t want to scare the children, too much… Which meant she was nicer than he’d ever been.

It certainly wasn’t going to make anyone faint this time; she was a bit softer this time around since it was a real class and all. “I blame what I had to work with. Kids, this’s Genesis, who can now tell ya first hand that when you put some elements together, they’ll go boom, right, Red?”

“Perhaps,” Genesis allowed, with a tolerantly amused glance at the class. “Unless I feel like saying otherwise.”

Because Genesis was contrary like that. Also, not the best teacher in the world.

“In other words, don’t listen to him, he’s an idiot. Anyway,” Kūkaku was going to get back to class now, figuring Genesis could stay if he wanted and she needed something else to blow up later on in the lecture, or he could leave, she didn’t really care, because she got her fun in. And if he just wanted to kick back and watch the rest of the class, she didn’t mind. At least he wasn’t Holmes. “That’s the basic introduction to chemistry and we’ll get more into it next week. This week, however, we’re gonna introduce ourselves so I can know who I’m teaching. Here’s the drill. I want your name, your interest in takin’ my class, and I want you to pick an element off the periodic table. Pick one that represents you, that you like, or just close your eyes and pick one at random for all I care, but pick one, and, if ya want, explain why.”

There was, of course, going to be a homework assignment based on that, but Kūkaku wasn’t telling them about that until they were all finished.

“Alright, let’s start with....you. Also, Bandages.” She pointed to Jono. “Come see me after class. Introductions, let’s go. Sooner we get this done, the sooner we can get out of here” She waved her hand and waited for whoever wished to commence to do so.

Jack had of course been expecting a nice, normal chemistry class. He barely looked at the syllabus. The teacher was too distracting. Then there was the explosion and the dramatic guy and the teacher again.

This place was incapable of normal.

Most of Scully's thoughts were on the possibility of a prosthetic arm for the teacher; however, she seemed to be managing without one reasonably well. One small part of her mind might have been calculating the kind of tensile strength the material in her Super Bra would need.

The narrative could keep mentioning the breasts until it was blue in the face, Ender wasn't noticing them. He was, however, sagging wearily back in his chair, and hoped the next few classes offered something more subtantial than explosives.

Jonothon did actually jump a little at the explosion, yes. It wasn't as if he didn't suspect something like this was on its way, but... Well, explosions in people's faces were kind of a thing of his.

Fingernails. Fingernails digging into his trouser leg. That was a good way to react, right?

Ino jumped a bit, more at the sound of the explosion than anything else and then she just had to stare.

She was... ow. Ow, timelines.

This was so cool. Bobby jumped at the explosion, but his interest was only piqued by the awesomeness.

Cassidy jumped at the loud sound and shook her head for a moment.

She wasn't sure how she ended up in this class, but she was sure this class was going to prove both informative and interesting.

Oh, like anyone could pay attention to breasts when there was sexy, sexy science going on.

...okay, fine. Tony had been distracted for about a minute before it was replaced by equations and elements. And reading over the woefully out of date text book.

The explosion was... midly startling, but not all that surprising given what he knew of the teacher. He'd had first-hand experience with some of her 'chemistry' after all.

Alex had taken Kūkaku's class last semester, so she wasn't surprised when things were hit or the explosion, thought it did make her jump just a bit.

If Kūkaku's last class was any indication, this class was going to be awesome.

Scully didn't know why she hadn't *expected* this class to differ from the norm; but she was resigned to it by this point.

"Dana Scully. I'm going to be a doctor; I need to know the chemistry of organic interactions." Already knew most of them, but needed the transcripts to prove it if she had to do this twice. "And carbon. The basis of all organic life. Versatile, multi-faceted, and essential."

"Jack McCallister," he said when it was his turn. "Like you said, it looks good on the transcript. And I don't know. Mercury?" It was as good as any.

"Andrew Wiggin," he said, once the show was over - so to speak. "I'm here because my knowledge of chemistry is still a little lacking in comparison to the other sciences, so I'm hoping to learn a few things. Rutherfordium."

He didn't explain his choice at all.

Jono was doing that 'awkward in the face of class introductions' thing again. But at least today he was doing it with his chin (figuratively) in the air, powering through to the best of his ability.

//Jonothon Starsmore, but me mates call me Jono. Mostly I took th'class because you never really know when something like this will come in useful, do you? And...// He shrugged. //Hydrogen.//

And if that was partly because of its explosive capabilities, who knew?

"Bobby McCallister," Bobby said, a big grin on his face. "I'm mostly interested in astronomy, but you have to have a good basis in all the sciences to truly understand it. And I like Oxygen. For a lot of reasons."

"I'm Cassidy, and I'm not sure how I ended up in this class, but I'm glad I did because it seems there are all kinds of things about the way things work --" Or blow up. "--and, I'm not familiar with any of these, but Iridium sounds interesting."

At least she was honest.

"Tony Stark," Tony said brightly. "I use chemistry all the time back home, so this seemed like it could be fun."

Chemistry was always fun if you asked him.

"And I suppose I'd go with Palladium."

Yes. That would be Scully facepalming.

Ah well. At least on this island, it would be eventually useful?

//Er... you wanted to speak with me, miss?//

Truth be told, he was kind of waiting for the 'you smell like a bunsen burner, stay away from the chemicals' speech, which he was hell-bent on taking with a grain of salt. Or something not unlike one.

Indeed.

Anyone who attempted to swat Genesis would find themselves in the sorry position of being swatted back.

He was there, lounging in a chair, with his coat spread around him and looking amused.
