Cafeteria | Afternoon | Thursday | November 25

It was Thanksgiving Day. It was time for parades, football and food. Currently, Alex was leaning against one of the walls in the kitchen, watching the catering company set up for dinner. There was a shitload of food and his stomach growled just watching.

It was good to be president. He got to delegate everything.

When one of the caterers stepped forward and thrust a plastic wrapped garment bag in his hand, Alex frowned.

"What?"

"Outfits for the dinner," the caterer said. "The contract states that we make and you serve the food. No fulfillment of the contract, no food."

Confused, Alex unzipped the bag and peeked inside. The costume was not cool at all.

"Are you serious?" Alex asked, glaring. "No way!"

"No costumes," the caterer said, already signaling his workers to get ready to package the food up, "no food."

Alex continued glaring at the caterer and the costume. He hated his life.

[OCD is up and this is posted early for SP, of course!]

"I suspect Vice Principal Deadpool of doing something with asparagus spears elsewhere that I don't want to know about," Scully said, deadpan. She grinned at Dru's food. "I see the vegetables are in the path of destruction there."

Dru shuddered at that mental image. "I hope their home insurance is up-to-date."

"Seriously." Scully took another bite out of a roll, and said, "It's nice that the school does this, though. Since some of us can't go home during the holidays."

And because some of them didn't have a home to go to. Something Dru was deliberately not thinking about.

"And we didn't even have to cook. I just hope we don't have to wash dishes."

"I hope not too. Otherwise, I suspect a hose and some million tons of dishwasher liquid will get dumped over everything in an effort to make this go faster." Scully grinned a little. "Although that could be fun too."

"You have a very strange definition of fun," Dru observed.

"Anything where there's the possibility of a mess can be fun," Scully said serenely. "Although food-related is always better." She paused. "Too bad there's no snow, or we could have a snowball fight."

"Mashed potatoes could possibly make a temporary substitute for a snow ball. Give this crew enough time and I can see a food fight happening."

Not that Dru would ever consider such a thing. But there were certain of her classmates....

Scully sat there looking anticipatory. And possibly hopeful.

"I wish... No, no wishes." She shook her head. "But for Christmas, we should plan something like that, for after the food."

"If we get snow. Which if this winter is anything like last winter was," she replied. "Is a good possibility."

"Then we should do that." It would keep her mind off another holiday without her family. Although she might have to explain things by then, in which case... yeah. "And ice fort, too."
