Cafeteria | Afternoon | Thursday | November 25

It was Thanksgiving Day. It was time for parades, football and food. Currently, Alex was leaning against one of the walls in the kitchen, watching the catering company set up for dinner. There was a shitload of food and his stomach growled just watching.

It was good to be president. He got to delegate everything.

When one of the caterers stepped forward and thrust a plastic wrapped garment bag in his hand, Alex frowned.

"What?"

"Outfits for the dinner," the caterer said. "The contract states that we make and you serve the food. No fulfillment of the contract, no food."

Confused, Alex unzipped the bag and peeked inside. The costume was not cool at all.

"Are you serious?" Alex asked, glaring. "No way!"

"No costumes," the caterer said, already signaling his workers to get ready to package the food up, "no food."

Alex continued glaring at the caterer and the costume. He hated his life.

[OCD is up and this is posted early for SP, of course!]

"Lots of magic, actually." Lots, and then some, to be precise. "And the number of people that use it is ridiculous, although it remains secretive, so it's not as if anyone that wanted to learn it could just go and buy a magic book." Well, maybe they could, or end up possessed by an evil entity seeking for revenge, but Zatanna wasn't going to enter into details.

Leda snickered. "Lots of Elves think the amount of humans using magic in Bordertown is ridiculous too." Actually they used stronger words than that. "Magic doesn't work in the Earth I travel through to get here. And technology doesn't work in Faerie. The mix of the two in Bordertown makes things interesting."

"Really? That sounds kind of...weird. So whatever technological to Faerie just...turns off? Odd. Interesting, but odd. And I wonder if all the magic just dies down on your Earth. And how long does it take for something magical to start working again?" Congrats Leda, you just won a very inquisitive little girl.

"Bordertown suddenly sounds like a cool place to visit." Unless it was filled with assassins or something creepy that killed unsuspecting tourists.

No the last assassin had been killed by Leda's mother. And tourists were at least tolerated by everyone provided they knew where not to go.

"It takes newcomers a bit to get used to it. And in the city the more complex a spell or machine is, the more unpredictable it is. And there's pockets where either one won't work at all." Leda knew all about such pockets. She'd wiped out on a motorcycle powered by magic in one of those pockets. "There's not a lot of tech that gets into Faerie I don't think. I know one girl who came to Bordertown from Faerie cause she was fascinated by machines." She had to think about that last bit. "And you know, I don't think I know how long it takes a magic thing to start working again. My magic stuff works just fine here, and I haven't tested them when taking the train to the Border."

Then book a portal for Zee? Although she knew exactly where not to go, those were the spots she usually liked to explore the most.

"Well, there is always time to experiment, right? What's the worst that could happen?" Jinxing it was obviously the first part of the process.

As long as Zatanna stayed out of True Blood territory she'd probably be fine. The nice ones would just tell her to leave. Not all of them were nice. Leda had been hoping to organize a trip to Bordertown before she graduated actually.

"Depends on what we're testing. I've yet to hear of a Seedybox or Impression Ball exploding so we're probably pretty safe there."

She was going to need a leash, or something along those lines then. "And I have never ever heard of those, so you have my complete interest." Exploding things meant extra fun on her book.

"I have both. Well not on me but in my room. They're basically magical versions of a stereo and an IPod. I don't know the precise spells that go behind them, but they're simpler than electronics, so they tend to work just how we want them to in Bordertown."
