It was Thanksgiving Day. It was time for parades, football and food. Currently, Alex was leaning against one of the walls in the kitchen, watching the catering company set up for dinner. There was a shitload of food and his stomach growled just watching.

It was good to be president. He got to delegate everything.

When one of the caterers stepped forward and thrust a plastic wrapped garment bag in his hand, Alex frowned.

"What?"

"Outfits for the dinner," the caterer said. "The contract states that we make and you serve the food. No fulfillment of the contract, no food."

Confused, Alex unzipped the bag and peeked inside. The costume was not cool at all.

"Are you serious?" Alex asked, glaring. "No way!"

"No costumes," the caterer said, already signaling his workers to get ready to package the food up, "no food."

Alex continued glaring at the caterer and the costume. He hated his life.

"I didn't know what to expect from this besides 'a lot of food,'" Bruce said. "And it's still more than I was really expecting."

"Never done Thanksgiving before?" Percy asked, raising an eyebrow. "Or never done it here?"

"Never done it here. Thanksgiving tends to be a little smaller in my house. There's still a lot of food, but that's relative to only a couple people," Bruce said.

"Yeah, mine were small all around," Percy said, shrugging. "Me and my mom and Gabe -- "

Ugh.

" -- and maybe a pizza or something. We couldn't afford a lot."

"The important thing is that you spent it together," Bruce said. "The rest of it is dressing."

"Yeah, you sound like my mom," Percy joked, shaking his head. "She'd say the same thing even if Gabe made us get anchovies or something gross on the pizza."

"I haven't had a Thanksgiving with my parents since I was seven. Turkey doesn't make up for that," Bruce said.

So cheerful on this holiday of thankfulness, Bruce.

"Never had one with my dad so I understand that," Percy said, nodding. "I don't think he'd really celebrate it anyway."

Gods didn't really need to eat, after all.

"Guess this isn't so bad, celebrating it here."

"It really isn't. Friendly faces help," Bruce said. "And at least we're not spending it alone."

"Yeah, I'd be surprised to see so many people here but then I remember half of the school isn't even from this world," Percy said, shaking his head. "Guess it's just free food to them."

"I hope they're taking the holiday to heart and giving thanks for what they have, even if they don't know why we do that," Bruce said. "Even if it is only the food they're thankful for at the moment."

Percy tried not to smile at that Boy Scout of an answer. "You following your own advice and giving thanks?"

"I gave the proper appreciation to a few people," Bruce said. There wasn't much he was thankful for, no.

"Really? You're gonna blame the turkey?" Percy asked, amused. "Guess it's better than blaming the pie or something."

"I haven't really started on the desert, so I might as well go for the most obvious scapegoat," Bruce indicated.

"I hope you just didn't jinx yourself," Percy said, glancing at the turkey. "It might come to life or something."

"If it does that, there are more than enough people to subdue it," Bruce said. "I'm not sure they would eat it then."

"Subduing a suddenly alive turkey on Thanksgiving," Percy mused, shaking his head. "That'd be a story to tell, wouldn't it?"

"I just dunno if I know how to subdue a cooked turkey," Percy said, snickering. "Freezer?"

"Cut off its limbs, maybe pull out the stuffing," Bruce said, as if he had thought about this.
