So You Say You Want a Revolution: Week 12, Period 3

When the students arrived in their classroom, they would each find a note on their desk. Each note read the same thing.

Dear Class,

By now you will have hopefully learned something that could be applicable to your home situation. Seeing as though many of you will be returning there this week due to the holiday weekend, discuss amongst your groups what you feel you could take from this class to use at home. Be prepared for your final non-exam class next week.

Aly was no where to be immediately seen - though it was an interesting question if she were around and watching or not.

Ino glanced around for her group members, pondering the question herself.

"Are you going back?"

Still slightly confused with the whole No Class going on, Cloud decided the topic at hand was conversation worthy for at least a moment. Maybe Ally would come in later on and see who stayed?

She shook her head. "Me an' Zack are takin' off for Gaia once I'm done work today," Ino said, "so not headin' to my family, no. You going back?"

Oh, really? "Yes, I'm going back; I'm not familiar with this holiday, and I could use the time back home." It was an interesting concept, two people -okay, three- going back to the same place; sort of. What would Cloud give to see Gaia before Meteor...he could live by knowing such place at least still existed somewhere, though.

"Do you celebrate something like this in your world?"

Yes, really.

"Got friends and stuff there?" she asked, with a bit of a smile. "Good time to see them. And no, not really. Not the way they do here. Does Gaia?"

Figures.

"Friends and stuff, yeah. Although the last I knew of them, they were all running around. I'm visiting one in particular." Two actually, but Marlene wasn't really part of the last AVALANCHE incarnation, so. He corresponded the smile, allowing himself to relax and accept the idea of having a good time back on Gaia.

"Neither do us. Apparently this place is rich in festivities."

Well. Yes. Just a bit. That was what they did.

"Makes sense, though," she said, lifting her shoulders in a shrug. "They got so many different cultures 'round here."

"And not everyone celebrates Thanksgiving. Actually, I don't think most of them celebrate it." Lucky them, for the extra holiday?

By the time Cloud spoke again, the silence was bordering on awkward. "Some class this is."

"It's a holiday for bein' happy about food and friends and family," she pointed out, "and the school provides two out of three of those for most of us. Makes sense people're excited."

Awkward silence was totally run over!

"And Duani's probably got her reasons," Ino said loyally. "Maybe it's a test to see how we act when left to our own devices.

Karla wasn't going home. Like she'd pass up a chance to celebrate an eating holiday here with her friends! She could be thankful! She practically had this holiday down.

Which didn't mean she wasn't thinking about Aly's question, of course.

"Youuuu," Ino said, leaning over to talk to Karla. "What're you thinkin' about?"

"Certainly nothing inappropriate!" Karla said quickly, before grinning and winking at Ino. "I keep trying to think of ways this can be used when I graduate, but I seem to be more interested in how I can use these methods to score more pie at dessert tomorrow."

"It's a worthy cause," she said, laughing. "Also a delicious one. Revolution for pie! You're stayin' here, though?"

"I'm not sure," Karla replied. "I have a standing offer to have Thanksgiving with Dinah's family in Gotham, but I haven't made up my mind yet. I'll probably call her in a bit and see if I can bring a few guests along."

Though that would mean sharing the Alfred cookies. Hmmm.

"Are you staying?" she asked. "Because I bet between the two of us, we can claim all the pies tomorrow?"

"As much as I'd love help with all the pies--because we could easily claim all the pies--I can't," she said, lifting her shoulders and looking a bit rueful. "Zack and I are doin' what Zack and I do--and that's fleeing off to Midgar to be totally badass. Neither of us really celebrate the holiday, you know?"

"But--but--it's a holiday about eating!" Karla protested. "How could you not celebrate it?"

Look at her confusion, Ino! Just look! You have stopped making sense! Eating! And, you know, something about gratitude or whatever. Pie!

"Though the running off to be badass does make sense," she added, once she'd gotten over the hurdle of insanity right there. "I can see that."

Pie!

Ino, don't laugh at Karla's obvious confusion.

Don't laugh.

"We can be badass and eat," she supposed. "Perhaps I'll see if we can hit a fancy restaurant or something?"

Would that appease her highness?

Karla was sad on Ino's behalf! They were going to miss so much food! Turkey! Stuffing! Pie!

"It doesn't have to be fancy--" unless Ino liked fancy restaurants "--just, you know, warm and filled with comfort food. And wait an hour after you eat before going to be badass again. Don't want to get a cramp."

Fussing was almost a national sport in Kaeleer. Trufax.

"I'll save you some revolutionary pie for when you come back," she decided. Ino couldn't miss out on everything! Oooh, and maybe she could make them a mini-care package to eat. She had time to bake before they left, right?

Ino considered that. "I don't know that Zack and I have got the same comfort foods," she mused, "but I'll see what I can do."

The fussing got an amused eyebrow lift.

"Yes, Mother, we'll be careful," but said lightly--Ino didn't truly mind that sort of fussing, in this case. "And saving me pie would be awesome."

A care package would be taken with a smile, truly.

... And then Ino would attempt to see if the monsters in Midgar would eat the food. And lie a lot about the fate of the package to Karla...

They made excellent missile weapons! Not entirely aerodynamic, but very, very, very hard.

"What's your favorite kind of pie?" Karla asked. "I'd hate to save you some blueberry if you only eat apple or something."

Except then, she'd get more blueberry pie for herself! Delicious!

"And you only get pie if you come back uninjured." Karla didn't even try to keep a straight face when she said that. "There's a rule about that somewhere."

Yay, potions!

"I solemnly swear we'll come back uninjured," she said, grinning. "Unless, of course, we trip going through the portal from there to here. Will we be in trouble for that?"

A beat.

"Strawberry-rhubarb," she added thoughtfully. "Pumpkin. Apple and raspberry are nice too. Same with blueberry..."

Ino liked her pie. Piiie. All the pie?

Well, there went Karla's nascent plan to get extra pie. At the same time, Ino's view of things was eminently reasonable, so it wasn't like Karla could argue much. Pie was pie and therefore delicious.

"Tripping through the portal will be forgiven," she said loftily. "As will skinned knees, random bruises, and hangnails. Darkness, I don't want it to sound like you can't have any fun in Gaia."

"Hangnails aren't any fun at all," she said mournfully. "They sting."

Funny how Ino was fine with a broken bone and less so with a hangnail, but there you go...

"What sort of fun are we permitted, Mother?"

And Karla, you're being treated to Ino's puppy eyes. Fun? Fuuuun!

"Well, you're allowed to pick flowers and string daisy chains," Karla teased. "Maybe skip and sing, but be careful not to fall. Tea parties are acceptable and you can always fit more schoolwork in as well. Doesn't that sound like a lovely time?"

Her lower lip jutted out in a pout.

"That doesn't sound fun at all! Where are the monster fights and skulking around dark alleys and exploring the ShinRa Building?"
