Unconventional Tactics, Tuesday, Period 2

"Yo, Rookies!" Reno gave his students a lazy grin as he settled back against his desk. This week, we're gonna touch on somethin' that you all probably ain't strangers to, havin' all been on the island as long as you have. We're talkin' alternate realities, timelines, universes, that kinda shit."

Reno's colorful vocabulary knew no bounds. Truly.

"I ain't in the business of actively tryin' to dig up trauma for those of you who have found themselves thrown somewhere they don't expect to be," lies, "but this is one of the important ones, yo. It's happened more'n once. Never know if it'll happen again, right? Somethin' breaks, or somethin' calls out from somewhere else, and suddenly, Fandomites find themselves in a radioactive wasteland, or another version of Fandom that's been turned into a livin' hell, or France." One of these things is totally like the others. Shut up. "And it's up to us to find our ways back home, yo."

Yeah, Fandom was home.

"Anyone who was in my Doomsday class has probably already got a crash-course in this junk. But it all boils down to the same thing, no matter where you end up. First, for the love of Ramuh, stay calm. Scope out the situation, make sure you ain't in immediate danger, and if you are, deal with it. Odds are, if you wake up and you ain't in Kansas no more, you ain't the only one. Try and find someone you recognize. Bonus points if they look as lost as you, because you never know if that someone you think you know is a nasty from whatever world you wound up in. We get doppelgangers here, so you gotta be used to that idea by now."

And if you weren't, Reno would laugh at you. So there.

"The next step is gonna be the same whether you're alone or you managed to find someone," he said. "Scope out the situation. Lay low if things look hostile. There ain't no tellin' what out there wants to stab you in the face or make off with your spleen. Take stock of the resources you got available to you, yo. Bein' in another country, world, or timeline ain't gonna change the fact that you gotta eat, you gotta sleep. Is the food safe? Is night gonna make things more dangerous? Do you have weapons or magic, and is where you're stuck gonna mess either of those up?"

He smirked a bit and shook his head.

"Ain't no knowin', right? Obviously, once you know you're gonna be able to survive on the chance that you're gonna be stuck wherever you're at for an extended period of time, the next step is to figure out how to contact Fandom, figure out what went wrong, and how to get home. We already covered communication earlier in the semester, yo. Maybe you can't get a phone call or a letter through. Maybe it ain't as easy as someone wakin' up again to explain what's goin' on. These are the kinda things you can't plan for, because the possibilities are as big as the multiverse itself." A shrug. "So. A recap. Find out if you're in danger and if you're alone, make certain you got what you're gonna need to keep alive, and then try to find out what went wrong, and how to get home. That's about as basic as I can get it."

He waved his hand, jumping up to take a seat, cross-legged, on the desk.

"Discussion class again, zoto. I know some of you got experience with worlds that are way different from this one, or the one you're used to back wherever you're from. So spit it out. What did you do when you found yourself thrown into somethin' like that? And if you ain't been in that kinda situation, I want you to start thinkin' about what you have at your disposal that can help you out if you ever find yourself there in the first place, yo."
