Languages, 10/26
To his Classics students, Dream delivers a lecture on Koine Greek. After he is done, he puts forward a question for discussion: What were the benefits of Koine as an international language? Are international languages still valuable?
For his Languages of Asia students, he passes out calligraphy paper, pens, and a primer on Chinese writing. Work on understanding why Chinese is written as it is written, and on copying the characters showin in the handout. Next week, you will move into writing with understanding.
Again, there are no classes on Friday. I will see you all on Monday.

Re: Classics, 10/26
"Good for you.
It's entirely possible." She grins again. "So you blurted it out and he mumbled and stammered? It's almost business as usual, then.""
It wasI'm sure it was adorable. The phrase 'plutonium's got nothing on this guy' might be appropriate? You kissed him? And there's no way you'd have been exposed to an alien virus?" She tried to remember whether she kept a thermometer in her backpack these days.Janet laughed. "No, Sam, a shot of Depo-Provera is not going to change your behavior in any way. You asked him out because you wanted to."
Re: Classics, 10/26
They hadn't gone on their first date and they were already fodder for the gossip mill. If it went badly or
he stood her up to go out with Teal'c, everyone would know."Damn it. I wanted to be able to keep this to ourselves
and our select group of friendsfor a while.""Thanks," she replied, blushing a little, "And yep, that's pretty much how things went.
Unless you know something I don't, business as usual doesn't usually involve kissing."She nodded, very sure on this point. "Yes, I kissed him. And as far as I know there was no alien virus
but around this place, how can you be completely sure?.""I was so impatient, Janet--it was like I couldn't stand there and be talking to him about something useless for another second. And I was a dork and just blurted it out without any finesse whatsoever
and I shouldn't have had to ask."Re: Classics, 10/26
"In this school, I don't think it's easy to keep a secret." She pulled out a chocolate bar from her backpack and offered a piece to Sam.
"Maybe nobody but our group of friends will pay attention?""I think it's sweet.
That's why I said it was almost business as usual."Janet grins very, very widely. "I think it's great.
Let's just presume that since you're both acting normally, there's no alien virus.""It's Jack. And you. I think you guys have gone long past finesse by now, so don't worry about it. Are you happy? Is he happy? The answer to the latter is yes, obviously, before you protest.
No, you shouldn't have. But I'm glad you did."Re: Classics, 10/26
She accepted the piece of chocolate and let it melt on her tongue. "Thanks."
"Oh, sure, like no one paid attention to you and Daniel?"She lifted her head and grinned. "Yeah, it really was sweet, if completely and totally high school. I'm happy. I think he's happy. It's just...wow, this is big, and there's so many ways this could go wrong, and we've waited for so long..."
"Help?" Sam's blue eyes were suddenly wide with panic.
Re: Classics, 10/26
"No problem."
"I try not to think about it."Janet grinned while she was listening to Sam babble on about being happy and munched on a piece of chocolate.
"Any time, anything you need," said Janet gently, and with just a little bit of amusement in her voice. "You know that. What do you need?"
Re: Classics, 10/26
"A sedative? To not be a teenager? To have the goofy, giddy, stupid part over with? Pick one."
Re: Classics, 10/26
Not after all the times I've had to put you back together." Janet giggled. "I'm sure if you really want, we can arrange for a nice panic attack to put you in the clinic.""Sedative is possible, but not desireable. How about a nice, relaxing night of nothing to do? Time will take care of the second, and believe me, I'd do something about it if I could. I can't do anything about the third either."
Re: Classics, 10/26
"Ooh. A relaxing night with nothing to do...that sounds nice."
Re: Classics, 10/26
"Doesn't it? Tonight, maybe?"
Re: Classics, 10/26
"I can do tonight. I'll probably be a wreck all day tomorrow, though. Not like you didn't expect that."
Re: Classics, 10/26
Janet nodded. "Totally expected. Don't worry. I'll have my cell phone nearby at all times, available for any last-minute panicking. Want help getting ready?"
Re: Classics, 10/26
She sighed. "That would imply that I knew what we were doing. Other than dinner in town, since I
hopeassume he's not cooking. What do you wear for a date like that?"Re: Classics, 10/26
Janet frowned. "Does he know what you're doing? Is there a plan?" She shrugs. "I have no idea. A skirt with dark nylons, maybe? And a long-sleeved cardigan over a tank top?"
Re: Classics, 10/26
Re: Classics, 10/26
harass himsee what I can find out. Then I won't tell you, so it'll be a surprise, but we can figure out how to dress you." Janet grinned. "Sam. He sees way more about you than your appearance. You know that, right?"Re: Classics, 10/26
She laughs at her own idiocy. "Okay, so maybe that would be an option, too, but I don't think that's the way I want to go."
"I know." Sam nodded. "It's actually not just for him--I want us both to be able to remember that we're not just hanging out without Daniel and Murray (or you and Charlie and Liz)."
