Languages, 10/26

To his Classics students, Dream delivers a lecture on Koine Greek. After he is done, he puts forward a question for discussion: What were the benefits of Koine as an international language? Are international languages still valuable?

For his Languages of Asia students, he passes out calligraphy paper, pens, and a primer on Chinese writing. Work on understanding why Chinese is written as it is written, and on copying the characters showin in the handout. Next week, you will move into writing with understanding.

Again, there are no classes on Friday. I will see you all on Monday.

"Thanks," said Janet. "So are you, you know."

Janet frowned. "Does he know what you're doing? Is there a plan?" She shrugs. "I have no idea. A skirt with dark nylons, maybe? And a long-sleeved cardigan over a tank top?"

"I don't know if he knows what we're doing." She frowned in thought. "I think I'd like to wear something pretty. He always sees me at my worst...covered in grease, wearing BDUs, having had no sleep..."

"Makeup even?" asked Janet. "I can always harass him see what I can find out. Then I won't tell you, so it'll be a surprise, but we can figure out how to dress you." Janet grinned. "Sam. He sees way more about you than your appearance. You know that, right?"

"Makeup, even. Happy?" One corner of her mouth quirked up. "Any information would be helpful, but I like the surprise part. Y'know, except for where I'm standing in my underwear when he shows up because I don't know what clothes to put on."

She laughs at her own idiocy. "Okay, so maybe that would be an option, too, but I don't think that's the way I want to go."

"I know." Sam nodded. "It's actually not just for him--I want us both to be able to remember that we're not just hanging out without Daniel and Murray (or you and Charlie and Liz)."
