Unconventional Tactics, Tuesday, Period 2

Today, Reno's class had been told to meet in the library for their lesson. And to bring something to write with and a notebook, because they were going to need to actually do, like, research and crap today.

Not in those exact words, really, but what the inflections of what Reno thought often bled into the messages that he passed on regardless.

"Yo, Rookies! Today we're coverin' one of Fandom's finest traditions in time of crisis, zoto. Today, we're goin' to talk about the people who roll up their sleeves an' make their way here when we're faced with somethin' we don't quite understand, because there ain't no place on the island with more information available to us than right here in the library. We can cast spells and punch things in the face and burn barricades all we want, but it's the island's researchers who find out what it is we're up against, and how the hell to get rid of it."

He grinned, leaning back against the Library Aide's desk with his arms crossed over his chest.

"Your mission today is to pick something, any something, that has already hit the island or that you think potentially could, and to find out everything you can about it. Take notes, Rookies. I want you to hand in what you found by the time the period is through. You got everything in the library at your disposal, from books to newspapers to the computers over there, but first person I see who tries to sneak into Special Collections gets detention for life."

What? As much as he loved the idea of going in there after you, he really had better things to do today.

"Rinoa here's been nice enough to agree to help you mooks find what you're lookin' for, so don't be afraid to pester her with questions. Keeps her day interesting, yo."

Once class was over, Jake went over to talk to Reno as one does.

"I'm sorry about missing class last week," he said instantly, still not a fan of beating around the bush even if he could do that awesomely so if he put his mind to it.

"I went home for the weekend to visit a friend and it turned out she'd managed to get a vampire army to come after her," Jake summed up as briefly as he could.

When all your bones were healed, it was a whole lot easier to smirk in response.

"Course we did," he said. "We finally got the leech that's been after my friend too."

"Thanks for bringing your class by did you find everything okay?" Henry said, more or less all in one breath.

He'd had a lot of coffee. Plus, whee, people!

"I don't see anybody staring at the Dewey Decimal system posters in tears," Henry said, calmer now. "Sorry. I get excited anytime people actually use this place. Usually it's pretty quiet."

"This is a university-level collection," Henry said flatly. "It has books worth thousands of dollars. So the fact nobody comes in except to socialize or if the island's burning down ... right. A shame."

"This is a temple of learning," Henry said, mock-haughty. "We should not have to advertise."

"Besides," he added in a more relaxed tone, "I don't have a ton of ideas beyond changing the displays out front, and we do that. Got any thoughts?"

"There's a French study group," Henry mused. "I could start something more regular for everyone else. I never thought of the 'this is a car' stuff. You think people would come out for that?"

Henry took a moment to absorb that information. "It's a little late in the term, but I'll do an open house first week the new kids get here," he decided. "... do you have something instead of horses? Or are they just extinct?"
