So You Say You Want a Revolution: Week 7, Period 3

Aly waited outside the door to the Danger Shop until the class was assembled. Once they were, she pushed open the door, revealing a room outfitted like a dance studio. Mirrors, barre, sprung floor, and all. Aly waited at the door to make sure every student got in, and none escaped once they saw what was in the room.

Shutting the door behind her, Aly made her way to the center of the room. "Right. This wasn't the original plan, but then I realised Homecoming was this weekend. And if there's anything I want to impart, it's the need to always, always be prepared for anything. When you're planning a revolution of any type, you have to pay attention to the basics before anything else. And today, we're going to start with the most basic of all. Movement."

"Controlled movement, complete control over each muscle is necessary to move silently, to climb well, to fight, to keep your hands steady," she grinned quickly. "You get my drift, right? It just so happens that one of the best way to work on movement control is through dancing." And now Aly looked even more amused. "So, that's what we're going to do today."

Aly raised an eyebrow at Nico. "Want to come up and help me?" It wasn't really a question and soon Aly was reminding Nico just to follow her lead. They demonstrated a trio of dances that, while simple, relying on paired movement and working with your partner, not against him or her.

After the demonstration, she turned back to the class. "There you are. Pair up, give it a try. If there are any questions, feel free to ask." Aly grinned. "And before anyone asks, yes, there are a number of other ways to train your muscles to control movement. Martial arts is one, tai chi is one, simple repetition of movement until it's in muscle memory is one. But I like dancing. And you all should know how to dance anyway," she teased. "Your homework this weekend? Dance with someone at Homecoming. And try to enjoy it."

[OOC: Seriously. It' the week before Homecoming. This had to happen. Nico modded with permission because obviously Hades' kid needs some embarrassment.]

"I do not think that you would bite," Faramir reassured her as he moved forward. "I do not know all these dances, but a jig I can manage."

"A jig would be fine," Elphaba said. "I'll warn you that I'm not often called to dance, but I've done a fair bit of practicing."

Alone. In her room. With no one watching.

"And it has been a few months since I last had the chance," Faramir replied, but he held out a hand.

Elphaba took Faramir's hand and smiled. "Then we'll have to stay alert and forgive each other's mistakes, I think."

"And hope that our idea of a jig does not contradict too much," he agreed as he moved beside her.

He waited for a moment, foot tapping to the rhythm of the music until he was certain he had the beat before he started dancing.

Elphaba moved along with Faramir, allowing him to lead. Her dress was not best suited for dancing, but she was making due and did not fumble yet.

"You are quite coordinated," she remarked, as the danced.

"There is truth in the lesson, one needs to know where to put one's feet in order to wield a blade," he said.

Talking did make it harder to keep up with the beat and he missed a step, but quickly picked up again, foot stamping in time once more with the music.

"Sorry," Elphaba said with a wince. "I did not mean to distract you."

And that, of course, caused her to misstep, but she regained her footing a moment later.

Faramir laughed, which really did not improve the situation, but it was hard not to. "I believe that we are even," he said good-naturedly.

"That does remind me," Elphaba said, realizing it really was hard to talk and dance a jig. "I do need to return your clothes."

"There is no hurry, though I would think they are rather useless to you now," Faramir agreed and he had to stop for a moment, catch his breath. "Somehow talking goes better when you have a bit of drink in you."

Elphaba was actually grateful for the break, herself. She was not as athletic as Faramir by far. "I didn't think talking was normally difficult."

"Not when one is isn't trying to keep up with a song as fast as this one," Faramir was somewhat out of breath.

"You make a good point," Elphaba said. "Though I don't think drink is part of today's class."

"No, it is not," he agreed. "I believe it might prove too much of a testing should we all end up tripping over our own feet without even having to dance."

"I have heard drink doesn't help with controlled movement," Elphaba said. "But I don't know that from experience."

"No, it does not," he chuckled. "I can tell you ask much, but it makes it easier to forget that something might not work well."

Elphaba couldn't help but chuckle. "Have you made terrible mistakes while drinking, Faramir?"

"I have made a fool of myself more than once," Faramir agreed, "but my brother would have stopped me from anything too embarrassing."

For the most part. When it wasn't his fault to begin with.

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's what brothers are for, I think," Elphaba said. "I only have a sister, myself. And neither of us tend to do anything all that embarrassing."

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"That is a shame," Faramir frowned. "Do you get two get along?"

[identity profile] didntchewgrass.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"We do," Elphaba said. "Though I think I'm destined to forever live in my little sister's shadow. But it suits me fine."

Re: Pair Up and Dance! [Rev 10-20]

[identity profile] thinkbetterofme.livejournal.com 2010-10-20 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"I know that too well, but my brother shines far brighter in the light than I would," Faramir said easily.

"And my sister has all the beauty and grace that I lack," Elphaba said. "Though I suppose I'm the better dancer, but that's cruel thing to say."
