Macro-Tactics, Monday

Kerrigan was all stalking, abrupt motions today - an irritability born of a fruitless week spent chasing a protoss Dark Templar around some ruins on Ulaan. Not that those were particularly obvious details.

She did not look like she was interested in long lectures today.

"Whoever has the biggest guns tends to win the war," she said, tersely. "New tech is always going to give you an advantage. It's also going to eat through your finances like a bad mold. You have to think about what you go for: maneuverability? Sheer firepower? Air superiority? You can't bank on everything, or you're going to be broke."

She motioned for her TAs to distribute some schematics to the class.

"Here's some examples of innovation from my time and world," she said. "Now here's a thought experiment. If you're fighting a war on your own homefront, what would you go for? What would work best for the terrain? Heavy tanks might look like a cool idea, but get them stuck in the mountains and they're sitting ducks. Take these schematics as an example, and sort out in which direction you'd want to develop your tech. Do you go for mobility, or firepower? Quicker deployment, or armored caravans? Speed or strength? Long-distance or short? Everyone's only got so much cash to throw at something."

New tech and firepower? Ooooh, yes, Leia was twitchy after her experiences last week.

Back to classes with guns and massive vehicles. Cloud was almost glad to be back.

Guns were still fairly foreign and new to Alexander, which meant that he couldn't help being intrigued by the schematics they'd be looking through, but he knew he would probably have to focus hard to actually understand them much. He was getting much better about technology, though, he felt.

Cally hadn't been so much expecting to change back this morning as... hoping really hard. On the other hand, it was mildly comforting to see that she wasn't alone, judging by the number of unfamiliar faces in class today.

Most of what Kerrigan had mentioned passed right over Faramir's head and the schematics were filled with words that still held no meaning after he deciphered them.

What he did understand was that having these things available could heavily tip the war in Gondor's favour and that alone was enough to have him attempt to make sense of the schematics.

Leia looked over the unfamiliar girl. Chuck had still been a girl that morning, so she wasn't surprised to find her class filled with people she didn't recognize. "Sorry, I have no idea who you are," she said, So Very Glad she hadn't turned into her twin brother.

"Considering circumstances, I doubt anyone can hold that against you today," Faramir said with a smile. "I am Faramir."

"Definitely the air units", said Cloud, looking the schematics; out of the whole group, those were the ones that made the most difference in Gaia, at least. Not that those Goliath things didn't seem handy, but unless he was going against a bunch of people summoning Behemoths having a solid air strike team could make any combat a lot easier.

"Speed is the most important thing." That might have been an agreement, or an argument. Sometimes it was hard to tell with Triela.

"It certainly is." Cloud was an agreeable person, most of the times. "On a terrain crowded with land units, taking the air certainly grants speed." He was still trying to make a point though.

"Mobility would be most important in the city," Emma decided. "Being able to hit and run makes the best use of the buildings, and I've got communication covered."

Cally had been thinking spacefaring weapons, or at least surface-to-atmosphere, would be the only way that Auron would even have a hope of defending itself, but that last bit piqued her interest.

"How do you have communication covered?" she asked the boy-who-she-assumed-was-a-girl, though which girl, she had no idea.

"Telepath, darling," Emma answered in her distinctive drawl. It was lower-pitched than usual, but the tones were still the same. "And I'm excellent at playing the psionic switchboard game. It's like juggling eggs, if people were as smart as unborn chickens."

Triela knew the dangers, but she snorted (not quite a snicker) anyway. It hadn't gotten any less amusing since they got to class.
