Library, Monday (9/27)

Things in the Amazon village were moving along at a good pace, it seemed, or at least that was the impression Gabrielle had gotten so far from the long, long missive that had arrived from her regent Ephiny this morning. There was still some friction with the remains of the faction that had backed Velasca's claim to the Queen's Mask, but it was a bit hard to stubbornly maintain your loyalty to someone (despite their recent ascension to godhood thanks to eating purloined ambrosia) who, when last seen, had been crazy, white-eyed, and plunging into a lava-filled chasm with an ear-piercing shriek of rage. Other than that, rebuilding seemed to be going well, relations with the neighboring Centaur settlement were even smoother than before (although Ephiny's son Xenon had had a bit of a painful incident with a rock embedded in his left front hoof last week, by the way), and some of the younger Amazons had been asking about Gabrielle and Xena.

Not that kind of asking about them. As far as Ephiny was telling.

It was good news, and although the letter was interesting Gabrielle found the writing a little . . . well, dry. And even though she'd hardly asked Ephiny to act as regent in her stead on the strength of her skill with written words, Gabrielle couldn't help revising it in her head as she went about her library tasks today.

Purely for her own amusement, of course.

Today, William was carefully going over back-issues of several Baltimore-area newspapers, looking for any stories about supposed wolf attacks.

Henry was in, putting together end of the month budget reports so he wouldn't have to deal with them wile he was waiting for Clare's visit.

In other words, please interrupt him.

Cassidy hadn't been in the library too often, but she knew what the person in charge looked like.

"Excuse me, sir?" She said in her most polite voice.

[[OOC. I am not really here. :D]]

Henry spun his chair toward the door of his office. "Sure, what's up?"

Cassidy lifted her book and gave him an uncertain smile. "I was wondering if you could please help me exchange this book for one where the witch isn't always the bad guy? None of the witches I know would ever do something so hideous to others around them."

The book she was holding? Meta for Snow White.

[[OOC: I couldn't find anything in the wiki that was meta for it! :D]]

"Something that isn't a fairy tale," Henry summarized as he rose from his chair. "I think I might be able to find something like that. Tell me a little more about what you like. Adventure? Romance? Drama?"

He smiled at the girl. "And should I assume witches are a personal interest? Or is that a rude question?"

[OOC: I don't think we have to meta fairy tales, but I could be wrong! It's happened!]

"Oh not rude at all!" Cassidy smiled in a more relaxed fashion. "It's a little personal since I'm a witch, myself. I don't know of any evil witches like this here or back home." She tilted her head. "I like to read romances and adventure stories."

[[OOC: I wasn't sure.]]

"I don't think the Brothers Grimm were working from fact," Henry said. "Though I'm not entirely certain of that, these days. Come with me."

He lead her into the stacks of fiction, back to the shelves of supernatural romances. "I don't read a lot of this kind of book," he said apologetically. "It might take me a second to find something that would work for you. But at least some of these should have not-evil witches in them."

Cassidy followed him. "I don't imagine it would be possible to read everything in here," she said with awe in her voice. "I've never seen so many books all in one place."

"It's a ridiculous library for a high school this size," Henry said, matter-of-factly. "Not that I'm complaining about it. Mostly, I hope nobody notices and cuts the budget."

"It's a wonderful example of a library," Cassidy said. "Whether some people think it's ridiculous or not." She gave Henry a horrified look. "You don't think someone would really do that, do you?"

"At this school? No," Henry conceded. "But it's always a problem. I get paranoid sometimes."

He stopped in front of a shelf of fantasy books. "Look through these," he advised, pointing to one particular section. "At least some of those books should have good witches in them."

[OOC: Sorry, I just know you know a lot more about fantasy lit than I do -- I don't have any titles on the tip of my tongue.]

"I should hope that no one would do something as foolish to you as that," she said as she looked from him to the shelves. She smiled as she gestured at one of them. "King of the Bracelets? This title sounds interesting. Have you read this one?"

[[OOC: No worries, and you would be surprised how much of my collection is actually supernatural romance. *facepalms*]]

"Years ago, but yes," Henry confirmed. "You should read it. It's about a quest to save a magical bracelet from an evil warlock. Not heavy on the romance, but the adventure might make up for it."

He smiled. "I have to say, I love enthusiastic readers."
