"We're on a bridge, Charlie!" the Doctor declared. He really shouldn't have given Sarah Jane's son his email address. He wound up with links to YouTube videos in his inbox and they really were quite addicting. There was probably something nefarious going on in there knowing Google, but investigating would have to wait. "Anyway, hello. Bridges. You're standing on one. This is the Tower Bridge in London, which is in Great Britain. Look it up. You might know it as the London Bridge, but that's wrong, because the London Bridge is that one over there," he pointed to the next one up the river, "and you should know better than to believe everything television tells you.

It's a combined bascule and suspension bridge, if you're interested in that sort of thing, but if you wanted to know all about the mechanics of a bridge you should go and try to build one. Or read about it, if you're not the hands-on type." The Doctor leaned over the edge, then spun around and flung his arms out to gesture at the towers. "Bridges are so much more than marvels of architecture. There are natural bridges, but they're not nearly so interesting as artificial bridges. Does anyone know why?" Like he was going to give them a chance to answer. Please. "They're symbols, and we all know how powerful those can be. Bridges close gaps. Bridges are a sign of someone not only going 'well, that's impossible to cross without a lot of effort' but deciding to make that normally insurmountable gap, or at least really difficult to cross gap, accessible to everyone. Determination. Hope. Dedication. A service to the community. All of those things can be embodied in bridges." He looked up at it and patted the railing. "And that's pretty admirable for a few bits and bolts thrown together. What do you think about it all? About building something for yourself and for other people? About knowing that something is so big and so hard to reach, but getting there anyway? Or we could just talk about bridges," the Doctor said with a little smile.

"Well, we have Portalocity. When it works, at least. Maybe we should plan something."

"Should we ask a teacher to be a chaperon?" Raven said. "Or do you think this would be an unofficial trip off the island?" Of course she'd worry about things like that.

"I kinda like unofficial myself, but I don't really plan a lot of field trips to London, so..." He shrugged and grinned. "I'm open to suggestions."

"I have never planned one or either," Raven said, shaking her head with a smile. "I fear I would become obsessed with the details so that everything is done exactly correctly." She might be a wee bit OCD.

"Well, do we want adult supervision, or do we just want to try it ourselves?"

"I do not know much about the world outside the island," Raven said. "I will defer to your judgment. If you do not think we need a chaperon, then we need not find one."

"I bet we could just find a student who knows the area, right? There's gotta be someone from London..."

"I am not certain," Raven said, trying to think of one. "Arthur and Merlin were from England, but from the past, and of course they are not on the island anymore. It would be much easier to find a guide to Gotham than London."

"True enough," Jaime laughed. "But, still, someone has at least been there before, right?"

"I can ask my friends who have traveled more," Raven mused. "Perhaps Kennedy has been there."

"See, we know people already!" Jaime grinned. "We just have to make some plans now."

"I am not even certain of what all there is to see," Raven said, growing more excited about the idea. "Perhaps I can find a guide book in the library."

"Well, there's clearly a giant bridge..."

Real helpful there, tour guide Jaime.

Raven couldn't help but laugh. "I know that know," she said. "But we will not spend the entire trip sitting on a bridge, will we?"

"I hope not. Not unless it's, like, a magic bridge of some sort."

"Not that I am aware," Raven said, "but it could depend on what dimension we end up in, I suppose."

"I vote for the normal dimension. Because I bet there are tons of things to see there."

"I vote for normal as well," Raven said. "It would be a refreshing change from some of the other times I have left the island."

"There's that, too," Jaime laughed again. "Normal would be nice."

"The last time I left the island alone I was assaulted by the Brotherhood of Evil," Raven said, making a face. "They had very bad accents and an atrocious sense of fashion."

"They're... a super-villain group, right? Aren't a lot of them like that? Did they monologue at you?"

"Oh, yes, they did," Raven said. "And they were very dramatic about it!"

"Do you remember any of the best lines?"

Raven put on her best bad English accent. "I am Phobia," she said. "And if you resist us, I will make you taste my fear-creating powers. Pray I do not decide to let you feast on them!"

Jaime choked. "Really? Really?"
