When all the students had finished filing into class, they might notice a man sitting at the teacher's desk, busy on his mobile phone. Presumably, their esteemed teacher. Esteemed.

"This is the Science of Deduction," he said, not looking up from whatever he was working on. For all they knew, it was a rousing game of Tetris. "If you're uncertain as to whether or not you belong here or if you are only in this class to make your parents leave you alone, the answer is no. The door is to your right. I'm sure we'd all appreciate you leave before you waste our time. I know I will."

There was a pause as he waited for anyone to take that offer. It was the kind thing to do, right?

"Let's begin with me saying that I'd rather not be teaching you," Sherlock said, closing the phone and placing it on the desk. Brutal honesty was always the best when dealing with teenagers. Really. "I have it on good authority that I'm not good at dealing with children or idiots. Both of which are in the room at the moment. Outside the classroom as well, but we're not focusing on that at the moment."

He shrugged because what could you do?

"My name is Sherlock Holmes and yes, I am already aware that I share a name and an alarming number of characteristics with a fellow from Victorian England. Any comments about it and you will be assisting me with my experiments. Always pleased to have live subjects for a change."

Oh, if only that was a lie.

"So, let's begin, shall we?"

William recovered from the moment of bogglement that had accompanied being named a TA, and was now actually feeling rather pleased about the whole affair.

He supposed this meant he'd really have to get moving on that whole "getting a mobile phone" thing, though.

"So, I've totally deducted that you need a phone." Yeah, Claudia thought she was totally hilarious. "I'm betting he'll probably want you to get one with a camera and a decent data plan, too."

She was getting at something here, wasn't she.

"An excellent deduction," Will replied with a hint of a smile. "What precisely does a 'data plan' entail?" his research had not taken him as far as smartphones as of yet.

"Well, then your phone does more than call or text. You can check stuff on the internet. . . . Have you encountered the internet yet?"

"Ender showed me a little of something he called an 'online Encyclopedia'," Will confessed. "Quite a jump from Babbage's machine, I have to say."

"Well, it has been more than a hundred years." Claudia shrugged. "I'm guessing Mr. 'I'm so awesome' Holmes probably wants you to have the latest tech. I could help you find something, if you want."

"That... would be wonderful," William replied with a smile. Hmmm... did TAs get paid? He'd have to find out.

"Cool! We can ~~maybe handwavily since I know you're busy~~ go look this weekend. Or I could try to make one."

She'd been kind of dying for a reason to try to do that.

"Make one?" William echoed. "Why not?" It was the kind of thing he'd attempt, if he had any sort of working knowledge of the process involved. A pause, and then: "...Cool?"

"Very cool." Oh, wait, that wasn't what he was saying, was it? "It's a good thing."

Bruce wasn't entirely sure how he became a TA, but he felt as though it had something to do with Sherlock thinking he was going to kill people.

Really, Bruce wasn't sure what that said about either of them.
