Famous Shipwrecks of the Deep, [Thursday, Period One, 9/2]

Summer stood at the front of the classroom, waiting until all of her students assembled before speaking. "Good morning everyone. My name is Summer Pitt and this is Famous Shipwrecks of the Deep," she began, smiling warmly. "As the title says, we'll be focusing on famous shipwrecks of the deep. These wrecks are from all different times in maritime history. Most are well known to historians and marine scientists. We'll be discussing them. Some of the causes of the wrecks are undetermined. I'd like to see if you can come up with a theory as to why the ships met the fate they did. It'll be fun to see what you theorize."

Summer paused, pulling out the syllabus and passing it out to her students. "Today we're going to keep it simple. I'd like you to introduce yourselves -- your name, grade and one shipwreck you'd like to learn about. If you can't think of one, that's okay. You can just tell me why you're interested in this class."

She was looking forward to their responses. "Also, Ariel, I'd like to see you after class, if you have the time."

"I'm Cassidy and I'm a freshman. I just thought the premise of the class sounded really interesting."

"Glad to have you here, Cassidy," Summer replied.

"Percy Jackson and I'm a sophomore," he said, glancing around and wondering how he'd ended up in another class with his cousins and the face stealer.

"I'm here because I like the ocean," he added vaguely. His dad was the King of the Seas, of course he liked the ocean.

"Welcome Percy," Summer said. "I'm a big fan of the ocean myself." She'd been around it her whole life, there was no way she couldn't love it.

Jack, meanwhile, had just been introduced to the idea that there was ANOTHER kid with his brother's face. He was staring, yes.

When Percy realized he was getting stared at, he stared back because...that was completely mature. He didn't know why this guy was staring at him and he wasn't gonna ask. Yet.

"There are three of you," he said oh so observantly. "What the hell is wrong with this place?"

"I've been asking myself that since I got here," Percy said, not even bothering to ask Jack what he was talking about. Stupid face stealers. "We're not related."

[...I fell asleep WAY earlier than I meant to. Sorry about that!]

"Yeah, I know," Jack replied. "I'm pretty sure I'd know if I had any other brothers out in the world."

"Which one's your brother?" Percy asked. The guy didn't have the attitude that Jason did so he was guessing the other one he hadn't met. "Jason or...the one that that girl Kate knows?"

He couldn't remember if she'd told him Bobby's name because he'd been too busy getting annoyed with her for calling him kid.

"The other one, Bobby. He didn't speak too highly of you." That last part was said with a hint of amusement, which he could safely say now that he knew the face that went with the name Percy.

Really, a second class with the same crew of misfits would be great. If only the topic wasn't so...watery. "Nico di Angelo, also a sophomore. I'm clearly being punished by the gods since water and I are not exactly the best combination."

Percy sent Nico a decidedly smug look because he went great with water. If this had been a class on the dead, he was sure that Nico would have been bouncing excitedly.

Water, though, that was something Percy could do without thinking.

Yeah, you can bet Nico pulled a very mature face when he caught Percy's smug look. Watch Nico ensure Percy ended up in flight class next term.

"Not the biggest fan of water?" There was a small part of Summer that was a little disappointed by that but it didn't mean she didn't understand. "Maybe this class could change that. In any case, I'm glad to have you here."

"I'm Luke, and I'm a sophomore too," he said. "And I'm not sure how I ended up in this class. Which isn't bad or anything. Just surprising."

It was like he unconsciously knew he'd be spending a lot of time on a boat in the near future or something.

"My name is Lion-o, I'm a junior, and I'm here because I really enjoyed my previous water-based classes," he explained. "My home planet didn't have a lot of water, so we didn't get to swim in the oceans. It's something I really enjoy here."

"I'm Jason Todd, I'm a sophomore, and, well, I didn't exactly sign up for this class, but I don't mind, 'cause I don't know a lot about ships." Plus, he had another chance to glare at Percy, and practice made perfect.

Percy was going to glare first because, well, because. If Jason the face stealer had to be in all his classes, he was going to glare every single time.

It wasn't like Jason had tried to get into the same classes as Percy. Since he was at the school first, clearly, Percy was stealing his classes too, and that ended up making Jason glare more.

"Jack McCallister, junior. The Edmund Fitzgerald sounds like a good one."

"Welcome. The Edmund Fitzgerald is definitely one of the more mysterious cases on the syllabus," Summer noted. "It'll be interesting to see what theories you might have for its sudden sinking."

"There are plenty to choose from," Jack agreed.

"Hi, I'm Ariel!"

Someone was bouncy today, good lord.

"I'm a sophomore, and, oh, gosh, I couldn't possibly pick just one! Any shipwreck is a good shipwreck, and I am so excited to take this class, you have no idea! I've always been interested in them, ever since I was a little gu--"

She coughed before she finished with guppy.

"--irl."
