So You Say You Want a Revolution: Week 1, Period 3

Aly was enjoying being back in a classroom, perching on her desk and watching the students make their way into the class. She smiled at the students who had that shiny patina of being brand new to Fandom and nodded to Ino if she was there as a student she'd known before. Once everyone was close to seated, she stood up, leaning back against the desk.

"Good morning. I'm going to admit straight off that I might be a little rusty with this whole teaching thing. It's been a little while," she gave a little smirking smile that said you could take her seriously at your own risk. "I'm Alianne of Pirate's Swoop. You all can call me Aly, duani is acceptable if you're uncomfortable with just a nickname, but the first person who calls me Miss Aly gets me unhappy."

"This class is 'So You Say You Want a Revolution.' If you're not interested in revolutions, pretend because you already missed the class on Canada. During the term, we're going to talk about why formenting revolution can be a good thing. We're going to discuss what revolutions can be used for, how they can be put together, and why a failed revolution can be just as effective." She gazed at all of them with a slight smile. "And yeah, I hate theory so practicalities will be covered. Demolitions, weaponry, organisation, magic - or not, tactics." She grinned. "And my favourite, intelligence."

"Ten years ago, I helped organise a rebellion that put my Queen in power and have served as her Spymaster ever since - when I wasn't teaching here, of course. Almost everything I'm going to be teaching you is what I learned during the rebellion and in the years since. And if I didn't learn it there, it's something that was useful to me at the time." She paused for a moment before adding. "In spying, your brain is almost everything - half of spying is half mental which I've said many, many times before. A single person can't put together an effective revolution. But a single person can destroy one. And a destroyed rebellion feeds only the ravens and Stormwings. It's a dangerous game. And one you have to commit to fully if you're going to succeed."

"Today I'm going to be traditional - for once - and get to know all of you. I'd also like to hear what you think about revolutions and rebellions. When are they appropriate, what would it take to rebel against the current power structure of your home country, society, or even this school." She smiled mischievously. "I'm looking for a TA or two too so if you're interested, let me know."

Aly's simple introduction had Nico thinking this was something he could do easily without giving anything away.

He waved at the class and faked a smile. "I'm Nico, a sophomore. Two things, huh? Um, I hung out in a casino for seventy years without aging and I hate cereal because my...dad's wife's mother is kind of crazy about it." There was no easy way to describe his relation to Demeter, sadly.

"My name is Karla, I'm a sophomore, and..." Karla tried to think of two random things about herself. "My pet frogs eat jello and I'm an only child."

Though she hadn't let that stop her from picking up an impressive array of Sisters.

"Cara. Junior." Cara debated what she could say that wouldn't be too revealing. "I don't cook, and I can take down a shadrin with a single arrow."

Introductions didn't sound too hard. Percy would keep things brief and vague so he wouldn't reveal too much. Even if Luke had said no one cared about who he was, Percy wasn't comfortable with that.

"I'm Percy Jackson and I'm a sophomore." Just like his other cousin who was older than him. That would never stop being weird. Percy always failed to realize that Nico was always going to be older than him because of that whole casino thing.

He hadn't looked older and that was the important part.

"I've been expelled from every school I've been in so far," he said, just going with that one since it'd make him look more like some troubled teenager than anything else. "And I've been to Mount St Helen's."

Percy decided to just leave out that he'd pretty much blown up Mount St. Helen's and ended up nearly dead because of that. The more mundane the better.

"I'm Ino," she said, with a little wave. "Senior."

Which was really strange, okay?

Two random facts... uh... "I can't stand caramel, 'cept on ice cream, and English isn't my first language."

They were not the most thrilling facts in the world but, hey, they were the first things she thought of.

"Leia Organa, senior," Leia said. "I didn't know I had a twin brother until I came to Fandom, and I once dropped a water balloon on the head of an important government official."

"I'm Luke, I'm a sophomore." Ignore the fact he looked way too old to be one. "And I've got more siblings than I can count and this scar on my face is from a dragon."

"Makita of Nokgorka, and I am a junior," she said, thinking of two random things. "I work at Pixie Dust--" possibly shocking, given that she looked like the bastard daughter of the grunge and punk scenes, "-- and I like Pop Tarts. The ones with sprinkles."

"I am Elphaba Thropp, a junior by all accounts," she introduced. "I am the daughter of the governor of Munchkinland, and I have always enjoyed playing guessing games, though the names of them are probably not the same in this culture."

"My name is Cally; I've been sorted into the class you call 'sophomore.'"

I came here by accident and I intend to leave as soon as I can did not count as a random thing, Cally decided, despite how random it had seemed from her end.

"I am ambidextrous, though I prefer my left hand, and I'm a twin."

"I'm Cloud, Junior." It sounded weird to call himself that, but he just ignored it. "I'm prone to have motion sickness", but not that much anyway! "And I'm a lousy public speaker." It was a shame that most of her random facts were either depressing or really, really disturbing. He wasn't lying about the other two though.

"Katniss," she said briefly. "I'm a junior. Two things about me are...my favorite color is green, and I'm named after a plant you don't have in this world."

There. That didn't give too much away, and it was all fairly neutral. She could survive this class.

"I am Faramir," Faramir introduced himself. "I believe that I am a junior." Though, he had no grasp of what this meant.

By now, he'd heard what the other students had picked as truths to share and he was grasping for something along the same line to tell. "I am told that I read more than would be healthy and I prefer the forests of Ithilien to any city."

"I'm Rinoa Heartilly, and I'm a junior," she said confidently. "'Heartilly' is actually my mother's maiden name -- I stopped using my father's name a year or two back -- and I have a highly trained rescue dog."

Well, Healer in training. Close enough, for the purposes of the subject at hand.
