Library, Monday [8/30]

Several days back in Fandom with nothing in particular to do already had Gabrielle a little (okay, a lot) antsy, so she was more than eager to get back to work at the library for her first shift. This did involve a quick walk around and good look at the stacks to make sure nothing had changed on her too much since she'd been gone (two months or six, whichever way you looked at it, was a long time) before she threw herself into the task of reshelving and straightening up with a slightly manic kind of energy.

In between rounds of that, she could be found at the collections desk, fresh parchment and a newly-cut quill from that last stop back in Athens spread out in front of her; she had a lot to write about.

Starting with the easier adventures -- she was hoping to work her way up to that big one. This was still a satisfying demand on her creative energies, though, so the aide at the desk this morning was a cheerful one. That was an auspicious start to the semester, right?

"Homer." Henry smiled at her again, waiting patiently for the information to start to make sense to him. "Oh. Oh. Homer. And you're sure you want to give it to me?"

Was it even ethical to take it? It had to be worth an untold amount of money.

... if Henry could convince anyone it wasn't a fraud. Which they'd think it was, given how new it looked. So he felt all right about accepting the scroll case. "I can't say thank you enough."

It was also written in a script that no one would believe was real.

"I'm sure," Gabrielle promised. "It's an early draft. I had to stop off and fill him in on exactly what happened when we helped Odysseus get home, anyway."

And glare at him a lot about cutting her out of the story.

"And when I told him it was for someone I knew would appreciate it, he was happy to give me a copy."

"I do appreciate it," Henry confirmed, setting the scroll to the side so he could inspect it at his leisure. "How was home? Were you with Odysseus?"

"For a little while," Gabrielle answered with a nod. "We, ah, rescued him from pirates and helped him get back to Ithaca."

That had involved sailing, and Gabrielle looked a little green just remembering how seasick she'd gotten on the trip. Or was that jealousy because Xena and Odysseus had gotten awfully friendly on the trip?

"I'm not sure Poseidon will be really happy with either me or Xena for a while after this, but how could we not help?"

[Yes, show canon refers to him as Ulysses, but I can't. I just can't, okay?]

"I can't say I would turn down that opportunity," Henry answered honestly.

He tapped the scroll with an index finger. "Are you in here?" he asked. "Or did you and Xena get edited out of this version?"

And now, Gabrielle had to let out a little sigh. "I think we got edited out of this one. He promised he'd fix that in the next draft, though."

"You should publish your own version while you're here," Henry suggested. "It's out of copyright."

He glanced over, noticing a teacher (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/2589259.html?thread=166781259#t166781259) settling in to work. He tensed. "Excuse me a second."

In some strange, chronologically-convoluted logic, would that count as inspiring her to invent self-insert fanfic?

". . . copyright?" Gabrielle repeated confusedly, but readily retreated to the desk to poke some more at her scrolls in the meantime.
