Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

More tables and chairs had been set up further out on the lawn, where there weren't as many trees. That meant there wasn't as much shade either, so these tables had more fans on them to make up for the difference. Still, it was bound to be quieter over here than closer to the main area.

[Please wait for OCD! The OCD is up! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"You look like you're having a load of fun," Peter said, wandering over. His usual snark was a bit soft. He looked a tad bit uncomfortable.

"Oh tons," Lindsay replied, though it was only partially snarky. She wasn't exactly having a bad time. "Looks like I'm having more fun than you, even. Everything okay?"

"Saw someone who I thought was gone," Peter said. "Then she ran away from me."

It was more than a little disheartening.

"Someone who used to go to school here?" Lindsay asked sympathetically, wondering if he meant a different kind of gone.

"Ariel," Peter said. "Last I'd heard, there... she'd left the school. And then when I ask her about it, she runs away. Guess she didn't really like me."

Lindsay was relieved she had been right because it meant people were alive. Still, the sympathy remained. "I bet that's not true. Maybe she had to be somewhere and was running late."

"No, she pulled the 'look behind you' trick on me," Peter said. "That's definitely a sign that something is wrong."

He sighed and sat down on the grass. "Not even like we were really dating or anything. Just... hits you in a weird spot."

"That wasn't very nice," Lindsay said, frowning. "She must have a good explanation. I mean, you're a pretty cool guy. Not someone anyone would run away from because they don't like you."

She hoped she was being somewhat helpful. Being nice had horrible ways of backfiring on her in the past.

"Well, you're not running away," Peter said, laying back against the grass. "That's one thing going for me today."

"I try to make it a point not to run away from friends," Lindsay said, sitting beside him on the grass.

"And not harassing me about the soul-sucking ways of redheads is a big plus, too," Peter said. "Thanks for that, too."

"That would just be silly." And crazy. What? "And you're welcome."

"So, meet anyone new and exciting?" Peter asked, looking over at Lindsay. "I kind of got sidetracked."

"Just met one new kid so far," Lindsay replied. "He seems cool. I told him about how people like to cook in the common rooms."

"An important lesson," Peter said. "At least, for days when there isn't a smorgasbord for the taking. You didn't sign up to be anyone's sibling, did you?"

"I did sign up, but they must have had enough big siblings. I didn't make the cut." After what happened with Didi, though, Lindsay thought it was better that way. She wouldn't have been ready this time. "Maybe next time I'll get the chance to freak out a new student. That's probably the best part."

[identity profile] theotherpeter.livejournal.com 2010-08-29 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, good thing I didn't bother signing up," Peter said. "I don't think I could've taken the ego hit if they didn't need me."

He was now just acting woe-is-me for the attention.

"Sorry you didn't make the cut, though."

"Eh, I'll live. They probably chose at random. It's the only way they would have skipped over my fabulous self," Lindsay joked, trying not to gigglefit. Really, from her, that statement just sounded wrong and silly.
