Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

More tables and chairs had been set up further out on the lawn, where there weren't as many trees. That meant there wasn't as much shade either, so these tables had more fans on them to make up for the difference. Still, it was bound to be quieter over here than closer to the main area.

[Please wait for OCD! The OCD is up! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Lindsy Weir," she replied, shaking his hand. "Nice to meet you. So what brings you here?"

"School," he said, gesturing to the school building. "That sounded stupid. Of course school," he chastised himself. "My little brother wanted to go here, so I'm here too. You new or already fit into the existing high school hierarchy?"

"I've been here since the beginning of summer for workshops," Lindsay told him. "But this upcoming school year will be my first here. I have a little brother, too, but he won't be attending."

Hmm. Boarding school, but no brother going along. "They send you here for punishment or do you actually want to be here?"

"I want to be here." Now. She didn't tell him she was sent here over the summer as punishment. "This place grows on you. It's never boring."

"That's a good sign," Jack replied, relieved that someone thought the place wasn't boring, even if she did choose to be here. He glanced down at the town. "Small place. Doesn't seem like much to do."

"It is small, but there's more to do here than you'd think," Lindsay said. "And there's a bar that doesn't card."

She considered mentioning some of the unique aspects of Fandom, but she figured his big sibling would take care of that.

Jack looked skeptical. "They let everyone drink? A town full of teenagers and the school's okay with that?"

"I'm not sure how that works. Or if it's really true," Lindsay said honestly. "I haven't actually been there, yet."

"They weren't kidding when they said this place was weird." He brushed it off with a shake of his head. They definitely weren't telling Mom about the non-carding bar. "What do you do for fun if you don't go to the bar?"

And that wasn't the weirdest thing by far. "I go to the coffee shop a lot. And there's a movie theater. Plus, people are always in the common rooms cooking."

"Free home-cooked food? Can't say that's a bad thing. Is the coffee place the regular hang-out for kids here?"

"One of them," Lindsay said. "But the common rooms are probably the best places to hang out with other students."

"The potential for free food will do that," Lindsay laughed.

[No problem. LJ's been evil all day!]

"I warned Bobby off eating too much junk so he doesn't deal with the Freshman 15. Maybe I should be worrying about myself if there's free food everywhere."

Lindsay snickered. "And I haven't told you about all the restaurants on the island."

"Seems like a lot of food for a small town. Are the locals big eaters or do you get a lot of tourists?"
