Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

More tables and chairs had been set up further out on the lawn, where there weren't as many trees. That meant there wasn't as much shade either, so these tables had more fans on them to make up for the difference. Still, it was bound to be quieter over here than closer to the main area.

[Please wait for OCD! The OCD is up! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

Scully spotted Spock (say that three times fast, she thought), and headed over to say hello. "How are you finding the picnic?" she asked, taking a bite of one of the chocolate-covered strawberries.

"It is quite agreeable," Spock said. "A bit cool, perhaps, for my tastes, but that is going to be a problem going forward. And yourself?"

"Very glad I'm not one of the newest people any more," Scully said, meaning it. The recent invasion had pretty much acclimated her to *anything* happening here, she hoped. "And interesting from a people-watching perspective. Trying to guess what era or world the newest students are from without talking to them yet."

"It would be illogical to draw conclusions without speaking to people," Spock said in his oh-so-Spockish way.

Scully sent him a lurky small smile. "But not illogical to attempt a hypothesis that can be proven with further study."

"No," Spock agreed, "that would not be illogical, and would, perhaps, be a productive way to pass the time."

"Exactly." Scully looked around, considering that most of the new students looked fairly 21st Century, and that she already knew about Faramir and William. "That student (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/2587213.html?thread=165806157#t165806157) doesn't look like he planned on being here, based on his attire."

"Or perhaps he did, but was unaware of the temporal nature of the school," Spock pointed out.

Scully considered. "Good point. Or that Portalocity I've heard of could have lost his luggage in transit." She frowned, but it was one of concentration, not unhappiness. "Too many possibilities to consider, once you realize the nature of this place. For instance." She nodded at William Murdoch. "I've already spoken to him, so I know a few things about him. Any theories?"

Spock considered him for a moment, then said, "I would posit that he is from Earth, though not from this time period. I do not know enough about Terran fashions to narrow it down more thoroughly. From his general degree of surprise, I would also posit that something about the setting has come as a surprise to him. Again, I would not consider there to be enough information to surmise whether he was aware he would be arriving here and is merely surprised by the time period, or is one of those who arrived unexpectedly."

"His clothes are from the last century," Scully shared without giving away specifics about William. She smiled at Spock. "So, he could be a displaced time traveler; or he could be from a world where Victorian men's fashions are the norm. But you're right, without talking him, there's no way to know if he's stunned at futuristic technology, the clothing of those around him, or being in a place he's not supposed to be." She frowned. "There should be a way to tell right off... anyway. Did you get a new little sibling or roommate this semester?"

"There are simply too many variables in play on this island," Spock observed. "And yes to both. I have not met my little sibling, though. His or her name is given as 'Shira,' have you encountered them?" he asked. "And did you get a new 'little sibling'?"

"No, the name isn't familiar. And I didn't sign up for the program this semester." Scully looked uncertain. "I almost feel like I have the hang of this place, after the last invasion. But I'd like to be even more grounded before I try to explain it to anyone else... if that makes sense."

"Indeed," Spock agreed. "I have been here for more than one year, now, and I believe I will be able to adequately inform a new student as to the vagaries of the island and school."

"Next semester, maybe," Scully agreed. "Who's your new roommate? And are they 'new' new, or just new to being your roommate?"

"Momoko," Spock said, "and no, she is not new. She seems to like the color pink a great deal."

Scully choked on a giggle. Well. Almost. It may have escaped. The mental image of Spock and Momoko just would *not* go together.

"We've, ah, met. She and Lion-O helped me when the service elevator in the dorms got stuck."

Spock eyed her with suspicion. "Is there some sort of problem?" Was there something funny about Momoko? Or him?

"She's very... bouncy," Scully said, still somewhat amused. "And you're not. At all. She's a very nice person; she climbed down an elevator shaft to help me." And turned into a superhero, somewhere in there. "I hope she doesn't overwhelm you."

"Yes," Spock agreed. "Bouncy does seem like an adequate descriptor for her." He would have gone with 'energetic' but he believed 'bouncy' was a slang synonym.

"Then I hope you two get along well." Scully's smile was back down to normal pleasantness now. "I'm fortunate in mine, I think. We're fairly similar."

Scarily similar, really. Rosalind was born 40 years old, and Scully had been shrunk back to 15.

Spock was pretty sure he and Momoko had nothing at all in common, but he said, "I am certain we will be able to peacefully cohabitate, at least."
