It might have been the start of the fall semester, but it was definitely still summer in Fandom. The sun was shining and the temperature was already starting to get high, even as the NPC crew set things up for the day.

Luckily, the school knew how to take care of folks on days like today. Beneath the blue and gold streamers and balloons, tables had been set up with cold drinks and food, and an entire section devoted to offering up different ~~moddable~~ ice cream flavors. As always, there was a stack of nametags set down next two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

With everything set up and the crew out of the way, it was time for the picnic to begin!

"Maybe it's just a quirk," she decided. "So where are you from, Percy? The here and now?"

"New York," he answered. "And...the here and now? I guess I'm from the here and now."

"It has to be asked," she confirmed. "What part of New York? I went to school in Bayville."

"All over, really," Percy answered considering he'd been through school after school after school. "I don't think I managed to get up to Bayville. Last place I was at was Goode High School near the East River. Know it?"

"Haven't heard of it," she said. "But still, it's always nice to know someone from up that way." She was from Illinois, dammit.

"I wasn't there long." Because, you know, the band room. "How'd you end up down here?"

"There was like an incident at my old school. My parents thought I should maybe be somewhere not there," she explained. "It's been cool, though. The people are really cool, and it stays interesting."

"Incident?" Percy snorted and shook his head. "I'm way too familiar with those."

"Got a lot of 'em, huh?" He didn't really seem like a troublemaker to her, but she could be wrong.

"Permanent part of my life," he said and shrugged. "I've gotten used to them. They don't even bother me anymore."

Okay, they did. A little.

"What kind of incidents?" she asked. If they were a permanent part of his life and all.

"I've been through a lot of schools in the last few years," he said, trying to make it sound nonchalant. "I don't really do all that well in them. Learning disabilities."

"That stinks," she said sympathetically. "You know, I'm pretty good with like the maths and sciences, if you ever need any help with any of that." She hoped that wasn't insulting or anything, but if she could help at all...

She wasn't insulting him mostly because he knew he'd probably need it especially once he tried to start reading the English in the textbooks.

"Thanks," he said, nodding. "I might take you up on that. Hopefully I don't get stuck with something too complicated."
