Henry never went back to his apartment Saturday night; the couch in his office was a perfectly decent place to sleep.

And, when he looked out the window and saw some of the things across the landscape, he was pretty sure he'd made the right choice. There were pterodactyls out there.

After making what he suspected would be the first of many pots of coffee, Henry set up the research tables with the books that seemed like they'd been most useful the day before, then settled down with some of the back library files about old invasions open in front of him. He wasn't sure if it'd teach him anything new, but it was something to do.

"That's still progress," Henry said, sounding encouraged. "Where there's progress, there's hope."

Or so his doctors kept telling him.

"That's what people keep telling me, although I think it's morbidly funny when they say that," Anemone agreed. "Do you know the meaning behind an anemone flower?"

"In the Victorian language thing?" Henry clarified. "Nope. I've read it but it falls right out of my head, I'm afraid."

"It's the windflower, the 'death of hope,'" she replied. "I prefer to think of it as that I'm so stubborn, that when I set my mind to it, people don't have a hope of getting what they want."

"In that case," Henry said, "whatever broke the doodad under the island should be running scared."

He wasn't sure he believed it. But he wanted to make somebody smile.
