In a stunning and unexpected change, Rick was actually there at the start of class, albeit looking somewhat the worse for wear. There was also coffee and moddable pastries, lots of both.

"Morning kids," he greeted the class. "Sorry about missing the last few classes, but I was unavoidably detained." Well, that was one way of putting it.

"Today's class is going to have two parts," Rick continued. "Firstly we're going to do a kind of brainstorming session, talking a bit about ourselves, you know skills you might have, the kind of things you'd carry around with you on a random day when you're off campus, that sort of thing. After we've done that, you're each going to dash off a quick story synopsis about being stuck down a hole in the woods with your classmates. How you might use your various skills and items as a team to survive until you either escape or are rescued."

"At the end of the class, you'll share your outlines with the rest of the class, so we can get an idea of how different people can take the same basic information and interpret it in wildly different ways through the lens of their own personality and experience."

Wonder if the class assignment has anything to do with Rick's mysterious absence over the past fortnight.

Raven had managed to drag herself to class, but she was starting to think that had been a mistake. She was still inexplicably in pain.

Like Karla was going to miss that--even if it looked like she hadn't slept well, either. 'You okay?' she mouthed.

If it were almost anyone else, Raven might've brushed aside the concern and acted as if all were well. But it was Karla, so she shook her head. "I am in no small amount of pain," she said quietly. "For no discernible reason."

That woke Karla up. "You are?" she asked. "And you can't dispel it?"

A hundred possibilities ran through her mind, from 'residual pain from absorbing Jono's psychic fire' to 'attack?' to 'demonic heritage somehow.'

"Anywhere specific? Or...?" The middle of class probably wasn't the best place to get into this, but this was Raven.

"Sookie was the last person I healed, and I had no difficulty with that," Raven said, wincing as she felt a fresh twist of pain. "That was two days ago. This pain...it is coming from within me, and I do not know why."

Karla leaned over to press her wrist against Raven's forehead. Perhaps this was some kind of illness...? "Are you feeling anything else? Nausea, dizziness, hot or cold flashes? How's your eyesight?"

Raven shook her head. "I am well otherwise, and I can feel no sickness in my body," she said. "It is almost as if something is eating at me from inside." And it had been slowly growing since it woke her that morning.

"Are you planning on going to the clinic after class?" Karla asked, head tilted. "If you'd rather, I could try to use Craft to see if there is something I can detect."

"I had not planned on it," Raven admitted. Because if she didn't know what it was, she doubted the clinic would be able to tell her. "But perhaps you might be able to gain some insight into what this might be."

She was totally biased toward magical healers, yes.

What kind of skills and items might you possess that could possibly be useful if you were stuck in a hole, especially in Fandom?

"I would merely teleport out of the hole," Raven said.

"I'd shout very loud until someone heard and came to help," Christian claimed.

He couldn't think of anything really useful.

"I'd airwalk out of there," Karla said, trying to sound more awake than she felt. "Or pass through the earth until I found myself free."

You're stuck in a hole with a half-dozen of your classmates. What happens next?
