Leadership for Social Change, Class 4, Period 7

"Hey, everyone." Dinah waved from the front of the class, looking mildly confused. "Dr. Horrible's texted me that he can't get to class today." [There had been an incident with a Sticky Ray that had a few bugs still in the system. Not that Dinah knew that.] "But he sent me the lesson plan. So apparently like last week's design of your, uh, secret lair, this week? You're working on your 'tools of leadership.'"

She pointed to the computers with various design programs, art supplies, Legos, and various arts-and-crafts extras on the tables.

"He says here 'anything that will assist you in enlightening the masses, transport you quickly to your destinations, protect you from fascist authorities who don't appreciate your genius, and that has a remote control or requires you to wear a gas mask.'" She paused and added, "And if it explodes, I'm sure he'll be thrilled."

"She enjoyed showing me around Rome, too," Karla said. "And showing off her cobbler. I'm going to have a few new pairs of shoes coming my way when he's done."

*Well, no one ever told me that rule,* Karla grumbled. *But, yes. Give her some of my bracelet-chocolates. She was very brave. I wish there were two of me, so this wouldn't be a problem at all.

"Oooooo. That sounds cool," Dinah said speculatively. She was nowhere near the clothes horse Triela was, but she'd love to have visited that guy. The boots Triela had given her were still her favorites. "Want to see 'em when they get here."

How are you selfish? Dinah demanded. You don't want to hurt anyone; you just really like more than one person. But you're smart enough to know you can't do that 'date everybody' thing and have it work. And kind enough to be honest. Where's the selfish there?

"Please, like you're going to be able to avoid me sticking me shoes in your face and squeeing, 'Looklooklook!' at top volume," Karla snorted good-naturedly.

*The part where I'm giving serious though to trying?* Karla asked. *Or, well, wishing I could. Since I know it would never work. I don't have the right mindset for it.* She sighed heavily, blowing her bangs up. *Wish I did.*

Dinah snickered. "Trick or treat. Smell my feet. Give me something good to eat," she sang. "Ooo. I should put that on my phone as your ringtone!"

But it's not selfish to *wish*, silly Karla. Or all of us would be selfish people. Heck, I've wished too. She shook her head. I do wish there was an easy solution for you too, though. Best I can do is offer you ... more chocolate!

Karla's expression showed, quite clearly, she had never been introduced to that bit of earth culture before. "Wait, what?" she cried. "Ewwwww!"

*I'll take chocolate in lieu of selfish,* she agreed. *Especially since I don't see me getting a better offer.*

Dinah cracked up. "Did you go trick-or-treating around Halloween last year?" she checked. "Mostly it's just demanding candy. But some little kids like to mix it up with threats." She grinned. "What, they don't have any silly kid sayings in Glacia?"

Then I give you candy and hugs. And gratitude and all. You deserve some love, hon.

She had missed Halloween, sadly. An entire holiday around candy and she'd missed it.

"We have tons," Karla sniffed. "But none about feet!"

*You're the best Dinah ever. All those other Black Canaries can go hang. Though not literally. That would be sad.*
